WSM and 20" barrels?

You get 2900 from a 20"? I only get 2950 from my 24" with nbs ammo
Yep

I have a Browning Mountain Ti (5.5 lbs.) in 7mm WSM with 23" barrel. I load it down for recoil, and 2850 with 168 gr. Bergers is enough for elk out to 340 yards.

Just be aware that 7mm WSM isn't as popular as the .270 and .30, so ammo and brass is scarce. I couldn't find brass during Obama's reign, bought some during Trump, and unobtainium under Brandon.

If I had it to do over again, I'd choose the .270 WSM. You can get high b.c. and s.d. bullets for it that will do for about any non-dangerous game in the U.S. If you're hunting nigali, you might want the .300, but I figure if you break the front shoulder, it will go down with a .270.

I would beg to differ that the 7mm WSM brass is unobtainable. It's quite easy to find as of late and you now have Hornady making some decent brass for it and also their Precision Hunter line of Ammo with the 162 ELDX. I've had great performance from the Hornady Brass after prepping it properly. I had no issues over the last couple of years locating brass or ammo for it. Winchester and Federal also making factory ammo in numerous choices. Anyways, I like all three of them. I currently have a 300WSM I just finished building last week and also a 7mm WSM I built last year.

I'm wondering what kind of performance I can expect from a 20" barrel and a WSM sized case. I've been using a suppressor for the last three years for hunting in .300 BLK, 6mm Creedmoor, and .308 Win. All three have worked well, but I'd like a little more performance.

So ideally I'd like something that pushes heavier bullets faster. My .308 only makes low 2600 fps with 150 grain bullets and an 18" barrel. I'd ideally like to get something like a 180+ grain to 2600-2800 fps. My Omega 300 is rated for magnum rifles with 20" barrels, and when using a suppressor shorter barrels are better for me.

I have the ability to reload, but with the current primer powder issues, I like to be able to have the option to purchase ammunition. So I'd like to stick with cartridges up to .30 caliber that are supported by multiple ammunition manufacturers, no wildcats please. Most of the time shots are likely to be inside 400 yards and use is mainly for elk sized game.
Hammer bullets Absolute Hammer 151 grain in 20" Savage Tactical 308win, im sure can get you over 2900fps accuracy node. Theyre amazing! lol. Mine ended up being 2975 ES of only 12-15fps power pro varmint powder, lake city brass, and 215 primers and half MOA out to 350yrds, 2.5-10 vortex Gen II pst.

Thanks, I wasn't aware Hornady was making brass for 7mm WSM. I started with Winchester, and bought Federal loaded ammo just for the brass, so now if I order Hornady, I'll have 3 different brands. But, that is better than not finding any.

300SAUM. 20" barrel. 3000fps with 168 Nosler BT and R17 or N550. Accurate, efficient and very well mannered. Norma make very good 300SAUM brass.
Its a re-barreled Sako A7 from 270wsm.

Have you considered 30-06? My 22" 06 gets 2700 with 200's and 2800 with 180's. A 20" 06 would probably fulfill your needs with more economical brass and a little less powder burnt

Yes, I have. I just can't bring myself to thread my 6 digit SS FWT Classic M70 I have. Plus I also want the short action to keep the overall length of my rifle down. My suppressor adds about 6.5" of length to the rifle I attach it to.

A modern well designed over barrel suppressor should only add 3.5-4" to the barrel length.

My 27" 7mm WSM gets over 3300fps with the 143gr Hammer Hunters. Logically a 20" barrel would do it for my needs and comfortable hunting ranges, but those big velocity numbers are hard to let go of for me.

Omega without extension and direct thread if I recall adds about 4.75" so it's in the ballpark and a good can. Swap the endcap and direct thread module for dead air (or other) Ti parts and you can shave 2-3 oz as well and get it IVO 11oz which is also decently competitive. I had mine next to an Gen I ultra 7 and it was just as good IMO.

It's right at 6" direct thread without muzzle brake. 6.5" roughly if I use the ASR brake/ flash hider and adapter.
