Got out last Saturday to fill our cow tags (me and dad). Some friends took us to some property they had permission to hunt, a chilly -10 degrees, sunny, snow and a whole lot of fun!

We got on a big ol' herd of 200-ish cows all bedded on a ridge. Got within 400 yards and set up. This was dad's first hunt with his newly acquired suppressor so we were excited to see how it worked. He hit one front-on in the adam's apple with his 6.5 SAUM... DRT... but turns out suppressed doesn't mean "undetectable"... :D The entire herd jumped up and ran down to the bottom of the draw before I could get off a shot. They slowed to a stand-still as I shifted to follow them. I asked for a range and heard "730 yards." I dialed up, picked one out that had separated off the left edge of the herd and let her fly. It hit solid through the shoulders, above the vitals but not high enough to put her DRT. The herd ran off but she wasn't going anywhere, the next shot put her down.

Wish I had taken pictures of the damage. 180 Berger Target VLD went through the center of the shoulder blades and on out the other side, near side had a huge hole in it and the off-side shoulder blade was absolutely demolished.

It was a blast, a cold one but a blast! Buzzing around on the side by sides, saw 2 moose, 2 coyotes and a whole pile of elk. Quartered 'em up and buzzed on back to the truck. Good huntin', good shootin', and good company. :)

Rifle:
Rem 700, 7mm Rem Mag
180 Berger Target VLD @ 2900 fps
