Oh yes they do! I grew up just driving all season year round. Once we had kids of our own I sprung for legit "winter tires" and holy smokes there is no comparison. Especially in our 2 wheel drive minivan. It gains and maintains traction so much more aggressively with them.
When I was young we had Summer Tires and Winter tires. i remember changing them out every year. When you bought a new car you had to buy an extra set of rims for the winter tires.

For the right price they'll make anything haha
I do know from our travels further west through the massive mountains of British Columbia there's signs on the highway and check stops even during the winter months …you wanna drive there you need to either have WINTER tires or chains on (some southern folk may not know what those chains are I realize). They will tell you to go back where you came from if you try going through there with all season tires if the weather is especially rough or unpredictable.
There were times in Colorado, when only 4x4 with chains were allowed On certain mountain roads.For the right price they'll make anything haha

Wolf Creek Pass on 160 she's down to single lane. The snowfall is whiteout conditions, trucks must chain up sign, is on. Those duals out back getting a bit loose when ya pull that 4WD lever back at 50mph for a little help from front axle and she works, heavenly feeling!

I think per mile driven my vehicles go more miles on studs than normal tires. I'm gone most the summer and we had studs on till late April this year and they get swapped on around now. Heck even the bikes get studs.

When I was 14 years old I got a job at my sister's baby siter job family. The father of the family had a contract to put "STUDS" in the tires. i was in his garage with a "Pneumatic Stud Gun" putting studs into the tires. The tires had small holes and I would shoot the studs into the hole. I got paid $ 0.10 a tire TEN CENTS. need less to say I only did that for two days with a lot of blisters on my hand $10 for 100 tires.

Think it used to only cost about a $1.50 to have Montgomery /Wards stud up a snow tire. The ol 67 Mustang had a set of junkyard rims all studded up for 1st time the snow started to fly, just bolt em on. At least ya wouldn't need a push to get out of a parking place and great pheasant huntN a early season blizzard.
Snowing pretty good here today. Was -10 this morning. Up around Peace River it was -20. Definitely now winter. Got the winter tires put on my Wife's Jeep Friday last week. Heading out hunting end of the month, happy to have the snow and frozen ground. I hate mud or dust when hunting.

Times were tough and I was always looking to make a Buck. I worked another job at that same time for $1 a day in an auto shop basement garage taking engines apart. Worked each summer break from school as an apprentice to Carpenters, Plumbers, Electricians and had my own Lawn Mowing Service.
When I turned twelve years old I told my parents that I wanted to buy all my own "Stuff" and be self-supported. Had many jobs as dish washer, busboy, Hamber joint cash resighted. At 16 was a machinist at a Mafia run operation making 60mm mortar shells, 275mm Rockets, 75mm Recoil Rifle Sheils for the Government. Did that full time on second shift while going to school. My dad was so mad at me for working so much and told me to keep my education up. Got paid a huge amount for the time $2.85 an hour!!! At 17- and two-months year old I joined the US Marines. Made me the man I am today.
Kids today don't know the values that they can provide to this Country. They look to take and not give.
