Winchester Model 70 question

I have a Winchester Model 70, chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. It has the "W" on the black synthetic stock and no floor plate. S/N 2400xxx. I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me find the manufacturer specs on rate of twist?

As posted in more than one response to your question, whether it's 1:9.25" or 1:9.5" is of no real consequence other than to know exactly what your barrel twist measures.

I suggest using the cleaning rod technique to find the twist rate of your barrel in particular for your own personal satisfaction. It's a simple confirmation to the information stated above and in some situations, identifies some inconsistencies from manufactures.

Enjoy!

Thanks- to know it's a minimum of 1:9.5" might be what I need. Looking to maybe look into some of the different applicable hammers.

There is quite a bit of data and opinions about Hammer Bullets on these forums. When in doubt, give the folks at Hammer a call, they have always been responsive to my questions.

Mine shoots the accubonds well too, but given the availability of accubonds and RL-22 I have to go to the drawing board.
Justin,

I do not know if you measured your actual twist rate as per the video I provided, but what exactly is your purpose for this rifle? Hunting (what game, i.e., deer or elk) or target and at what distance? Establishing your intended purpose will help you choose the right bullet to load for your intended purpose. Sure some powders are nearly impossible to find, but that's the beauty of reloading; finding what works for what you have. Don't be afraid to try other powders and bullets.

If you have not seen my thread https://www.longrangehunting.com/th...al-gun-store-empty-handed-rule.255740/page-38 most of them are from N40 and Scheels in GF. @Veteran and others are always on the lookout and informing us about reloading stuff. If you run into a brick wall, give me a holler and see what we can work out. Good luck

Ed-
I tried it the other day and the dry patch I had must have been a bit too big as I pushed it through it was snug and the rod did not rotate a complete revolution so I was gonna try giving it another go this weekend hopefully. Intended purpose is a hunting rifle(deer/elk). I'm not real concerned just yet with powder choices as I do have a decent selection. The projectiles are the issue at the time as 160 accubonds are a bit tough to come by.

Justin,

Sorry, I have to ask, does your cleaning rod's handle free to rotate? I used a brush instead.
I hear you saying that you want 160 NABs and cannot find them. Right? That is why I encourage you to use other powders and bullets of similar weight/design or close to it., i.e., Hornady SST in 162 (https://www.midsouthshooterssupply....ock-tipped-boat-tail-with-cannelure-100-count) is readily available, until you get your hands on the bullet you want to use.

Since you did not note the range, the Grand Slam 160 SP (https://www.midsouthshooterssupply....eter-160-grain-grand-slam-soft-point-50-count) might work for you too. Ultimately, the choice is yours; we can only recommend options. Good luck!

Handle does rotate freely, but what I did was take a silver sharpie and marked it at 12 o'clock and watched the rotation as the rod went down barrel. I will give the brush a go.

In the 168g class of bullets, I found Nosler ABLR to be an absolute hammer in my STW 9.25" twist.
The 160g AB performs very well also, although I haven't seen any for some time now.

Cheers.
