Wildcat 200 ULD RBBTs w/Sauter Jackets-Bump the Chargemaster up

Dave:

I've never tried any of the Sierra jackets although I did have pretty good results this year on a deer and an elk using the J-4s. The problem I have is with velocity. When I push the 7mm AM very hard the J-4's never get to the target so that is one of the main reasons in going to the heavier jacketed bullets.

My deer at just under a half mile didn't stop the J-4 and the elk used up most of his body lengthwise to finally stop one.

After I get the load work etc. all done I will do some penetration and espansion tests with the J-4 and Sauters and see what happens.

this is kind of my point.most of the length of an elk and clear through a deer at 800 with a j-4 jacket.did the j-4's open up much on the deer? kirby shot his deer at 300 and didn't get that much expansion.it seems the j-4's are plenty stiff enough for hunting, maybe too sturdy.this is a long high sectional density type of bullet.a heavier jacket might be too much for anything but very large game and is gonna be harder to start.match kings are made with not only a thinner jacket but a softer lead than the hunting bullets.these bullets obviously need a heavier jacket to use the full potential of the 7AM but maybe they need some softer lead or the tip opened up to expand at long range.i only have a couple of examples to base this opinion on so take it for what it's worth.
