"Wild Boar Fever"

I was also taught that that meat of the animal was much better if not running scared.

This is true. It's the adrenaline in their system that makes them gamier. Having Bow hunted for many years, I found that If the game was at rest and not alerted, the meat tasted better. If it was spooked or running it had more of a wild taste. In this case, a pass through and bleed out was a better shot because it removed most of the adrenaline in there system.

Most of this can be eliminated by prompt and proper meat handling and processing But it is best to take game when they are unaware of any Problem for them.

When I was a lowly 2LT I had 4 months between courses at fort Benning and got sent to the MTU. I got to shoot 50 meter 22 LR running boar and got pretty good. Was offered the chance to stay but I had a plum assignment to the 509th airborne in Italy waiting for me. It is a learned skill for sure.

New show on the Outdoor channel today Saturday at 5pm. I saw this last week and it was about Franz( J E this is your guy) and his European friends hog hunting. It started with their equipment. Large caliber bolt rifles with Aimpoint scopes. Then to the range where they practiced on moving hog targets at different ranges. Then to the driven hunts.
I've been following him for several years. He's got quite a few older shows/videos on youtube.

The WBF is just a great show overall and showcases some of the finest shooting you'll ever see although it's a completely different discipline than most of us have ever seen or will ever try.

You can tell the man is incredibly passionate about the sport and does a great job of educating the viewers.

I've sent him an invitation should he decide he'd ever like to come and try it "Our Way".

I now know why they are so good. It's practice, practice, practice. I was so impressed with their set up I'll say it again. They have a live action set up with moving hog targets at different ranges that they spend hours upon hours on. When it comes to the hunt they know and survey the escape routes and their distances before setting up. Then the driven hunt. These guys got it going on.
They have also developed a great video program that projects actual video images of moving game on a big wall/screen like a shooting arcade that is coordinated with a computer and laser set up similar to what we used to train with in the military. It is very realistic.

The star of the show I believe his name is Franz has some serious shooting skills. Hitting fast moving targets is really tough. He makes it look rather easy I have to say I'm impressed and will keep watching.
The most impressive part to me is the way in which he does it while having to pick very narrow gaps in the trees at the same time.

I've spent much of my life wing shooting in heavy mesquites and developed quite a reputation for it but that is using a shotgun with open sights.

Franz Albrect is in a league several orders of magnitude above and more difficult with his skill level.

I'm sold. I'll take one. Why hasn't one of our companies come out with a video game like arcade that projects on a wall at home? Now your talkin'. I think young and old would love this. It would certainly make better hunters and shooters out of us.

Geo they actually have some out there. Have you ever been to Bass Pro in Dallas and visited the arcade?

I can't tell you why someone hasn't thought to develop a more modern version for the consumer but someone definitely should do so.

WR, I spent hours at the old time arcade set up in the Cabelas store near Denton. Loved it. I haven't been to Bass Pro in years. Will have to check it out sometime. Hatrick, they have archery, race cars, fishing, and probably others. Just not one for shooting. Any good arcade always had a shooting game.

By watching Franz shoot perhaps we can learn and in turn become better shooters our selves. Here is what I see. First off every movement is SMOOTH. He is one with the gun. How can the action be that slick? His length of pull seams to be short and he leans over and into the gun. When he shoots there is not much recoil for a magnum without a brake. Perhaps his stance helps here. I could not tell how he was standing. Please throw rocks at this or add to it one way or the other. Hopefully we can help each other.

Geo he's shooting a Sauer 202 7mm RM with a brake in most of the episodes I've seen.

His technique is very similar to that of someone with a lot of upland and pass shooting.

Everything has to be smooth. He explains that he comes up from behind gauging the speed and moves to a lead point just ahead for a neck/foreshoulder impact.
