Why Not .270 WIn for LR?

My 20 year old Remington 270, 22 inch barrel is good out to 600 yards. But, after that I go to the 300 WM. I use 130 to 150 grain bullets and don't push them too hard. The conventional 270 just is not designed to do much more than that.
With 22" barrel and 130's prob right. A 170 EOL does 3050 out of my 24" barrel with RL26 and once I get my trigger guard screws for new build 27" 1:8 5R I bet over 3100 with a 170EOL. Whole different animal!

With RL26 it becomes a whole new animal.

That sounds like a solid plan to bring the 270 cartridge out of the background and I am interested in it. Please post what ya find out somewhere where I can find it, and read up on it.
I think that setup will get some attention.

I ordered the barrel from Preferred Barrel with 1:8 Twist, 5R, Light Palma contour with 0.290 Free Bore which provides me the throat for seating 156 Hammer Hunters out to 3.63 COAL in my Remington 700 LA. This provides me about 0.20 jump which is fine. I fully expect to see 3100+ fps with them and even with the 170 EOL's. You are now shooting a .270 that was meant to be! Light recoil and a real thumper! Takes down a T-Rex at a Mile easily...oh wait that's a 6.5 CM.

That's gonna be sweet

"Light Recoil" with, 170's going 3,100+ FPS,.. LOL !
Maybe in,.. a 12 Pound, Rifle !
My UN-Braked .270 WSM, pushing 140 gr. Classic Hunters at, 3,185 FPS, lifts MY 7.7 Pound, Rifle,.. OUT of, the Rest !
I need to put 2 Fingers on the Forend to, hold Her, down !
I see your using, a Truck Axel for a Barrel, so maybe, it won't Recoil, "too Bad " !
Probably, will need/ want, to Brake it, too !
Buy, a Mule and Carriage Wheels,.. to pack it, up the Mountain !
Just joshing you, ole' Buddy ! Enjoy, your New "Toy" !

So you would be at least matching 6.8 Western Factory loads with the std. 270 and yet have a rifle that could shoot any off the shelf .270 if you wish, I don't see anything wrong with that !👍

I leave my 9-10 Pound Rifles, at Home as, they won't carry,.. ME,.. up, a 9,000 Ft. Mountain,.. LOL !

There is no "right weight" but what works for you. I have a old style Sendero 25-06AI and a Lam. Stock 300WM Sendero. The Lam stock one is quite heavy but up until a few years ago I did not pay any attention to it. I grew up doing alot of hard work, athletics and weight lifting in College and into my 40's. Now I am 68 and I feel the weight if I carry a long time. Flush cups and an AR style carry could offset the weight some but I don't know a good way to install them into a wood stock.

I look forward to hearing more about your 270 as you do load developement.
