Why can’t we get good dies!

Anybody who has built a 20VT and used Todd Kindlers original case dimensions print that was for Remington 221 fireball and then tried to use Lapua 221 fireball brass knows exactly what a " clicker" is.

Feenix! 'Corn! Please!!

Here you go ...

As with most mechanical devices, problems with dies are only experienced by those who:
-fail RTFI
-think max loads are for others
-have other defective items

Millions of shooters, reloading for well over 150 years, for 10s of thousands of cartridge firearms with complete success ----- but wait ----- on a forum peopled by .0001 of shooters in 2020, a new discovery is made that has never been reported in any book on reloading.

Groundbreaking ! I'm confident the next issue of Handloader will be devoted to "clickers" !

No doubt clickers will find its place in history with front ignition, duplex smokeless loads, venturi shoulders and the Wasp Waist Sonic bullet.

this is unreal

The only thing "unreal" is that so much bandwidth has been wasted carrying on about a non-existent problem that has only been discovered by 2 people here. One of whom doesn't post and the second who can produce zero evidence of unproven slander against out reloading manufacturers.

Clicks driving you over the edge ?

three fixes ! (any one will work)

1. harder brass
2. lighter loads
3. buy a coned breech rifle

Just the opposite situation exists for lowly guys like me who shoot factory rifles most of the time. I have one 270 Win that has a fairly oversize chamber and I'm glad in this case that my RCBS Competition FL resizing die hardly sizes the shoulder and case barely touches the web area so I get less brass work hardening. I also have a min spec custom barrel on my 243 Win and I was lucky enough to purchase a Redding FL resizing die that just barely resizes the body of the case for easy chambering and no clicking. I really think it's a crap shoot finding the "Just Right" die for every rifle out there ... probably all depends on how worn or new the die maker's reamers are to where they fall in the SAAMI spec.

I must be hard hearing. Been reloading for almost 60 years. Never heard a clicker. Only problem that might relate to the post was with a M70 push feed 257 Roberts FWT. RCBS dies and WW resized brass would not chamber. Not over length, so removed a small amount from the base of the die. Problem solved.

For all of those unfamiliar with the definition of the term "clicker". it refers to the very last amount of bolt lift where the primary extraction of the case is initiated. When you have a harder than desired bolt force necessary to get the final opening of the bolt to extract the case. You will generally experience a click noise in the process of the final lifting of the bolt before you would pull the bolt rearward to extract the case thus the term "clicker. This can happen for a number of reasons but it is most common in a custom chamber with a reamer that is on the tight side in the rear area of the chamber. Some casings and certain brands of brass can make the condition worse than others.

Maybe next thread should be "Why we should ban Stitsville"

L😇L! I am thankful that Len has provided us a platform to share common interests and a conducive learning environment. I think he has done an excellent job in giving us the flexibility to self-police ourselves and have a civil discussion. Most of us remember that not too long ago, a few had warnings, others went to LRH temp jail time, others just could not control themselves and result in a ban. Since then, it has been peaceful, so let's keep it that way shall we.
