A couple weeks ago I got a hell of a deal on a Savage 112 FV in 22-250 12 twist, I put a B&C duramax stock on it and bedded the recoil lug, installed a Rifle Basix trigger at 14ozs, a Wolff 32lb firing pin spring, and a 1 piece Weaver base. I have not got the new scope and rings for it yet but I did some testing with the new 53grn vmaxs with Lapua cases and Imr 4064 I found excessive pressure at 38.7grns with a 2.515 oal so I settled at 38.2grns. I loaded 4 identical rounds like that and put them through the chrony, I didn't count the first but the 3 shot string averaged 3966fps, so if anyone has used these for a while do they group better pushed to the max or a little slower?

I haven't tested any yet, but I plan to do it. I have a 1-14 twist 22-250 and hope I can get these to stabilize well in it. I'll probably be trying to use Varget as I have a load of it.

Your OAL is a little long, do they fit in your mag or are you single shot with this load?

What was your accuracy over all?

Keep us posted.

I got to rethinking my question about OAL and I wasn't thinking straight. Most actions that will fire the .308win are used for the 22-250 and the 308 length is at 2.8 I believe...silly me.

So how are the 53 vmax running as far as accuracy go?

I backed the charge down to 37.8grns for a 3897fps 5 shot average without counting the cold bore the ES was 6. I put 3 5 shot groups into a 5/8" bullseye at 100yrds. Those 53s are about .023" longer than a 55grn nosler BT you may have some issues in a 14 twist unless you can pass 4k fps, I can with RE10X but it flattens the hell out of primers and messes up the primer pocket after 2 loads, and will not work in hornady, federal, remington, or winchester brass except the nickel plated winchester brass.

Where the heck does a guy find any of these new 53's? I always have good sources for finding some of the other hard to get Vmax's like the 75 & 87 6mm Vmax's but I'll be damned if I can get my hands on any of these 53's and I would love to try them in my 1-9 .223 LTR behind some Benchmark

I got lucky at a local outdoors shop they had 2 stacks of v-maxs 35s and 55s so I dug through the 2 stacks and also found 40s 50s 52a-maxs and 60s and the last 2 boxes of 53s. I checked at 6 local places and 4 online and nothing, midway is epecting a new shipment in about a month.

FYI guys, as of today, MIDWAYUSA has them in stock, they are not cheap though. $17.99 a box.
I bought a couple of boxes to load up and see what they will do in my 1-9 twist, 24" barreled AR-15. gun)
I'm hoping to get that .22-250 performance out of my .223 likes Hornady claims.
