Which 6.5mm

Read 100's of post over multiple threads/sites, but alot of the information on the Sherman is a couple of years old. I also don't see alot of comparison to the PRC. So I'm curious what the current consensus is.

Going to build a 6.5mm do it all, lighter weight rifle. Currently have a 260 Rem, so want something more then that. I originally planned this build 3 years ago, and had settled on the 6.5 Sherman Short. But now that the 6.5PRC is out, I am considering that caliber as well.

I'm in Canada, so getting parts for the Sherman has always been a concern. I reload, so the factory Ammo for the PRC is not a benefit. Though still new to reloading, so a Wildcat could be both an awesome challenge or a bit too much to tackle. Re-sale is a consideration, but not a huge factor.

I would like to put a 22" barrel on this rifle, maybe even shorter. I can't seem to find alot of info on either of these cartridges in barrels shorter then 24".

I'd prefer a Short Action, so the need for a medium action on the PRC is a negative, but not a huge negative. Should I seriously consider putting a Sherman in a medium action as well?

Sherman uses short action as its a shortened case. The PRC works with a short action, can be hand loaded with all bullets with a 140 freebore and Hornady ammo will be close to lands. If you want to hand load and shoot bullets that are insensitive to seating depth, hammer and hybrids, the prc will run fine in short action. The Christensen ridgeline is a good buy for the money.
 
Don't worry about getting Sherman stuff to Canada. Rich sends me reamers in mail. I go through Prophet River for brass you can order what you need 50bucks import fee. There are quite a few of us Canadians that are waiting on different head stamped brass to come out then we will do a group buy and you're more than welcome to join us.
Not sure what your gonna build off but if you go with Tikka wsm platform you will have all the room you need. Plus wildcat composite in Edmonton makes a light weight drop in stock now you could build a 6.5lb rig with this combo.
I did go with a LA KS arms action for my 338SS but with 2 inch long bullets I wanted the room plus I can run long or short cartridges in future.
I have a kimber Montana that I was going to do a 7SS but I'm gonna hold off And go the Tikka route more room and Rich may have something new up his sleave.
But as highdrum said Christensen makes a nice outfit and the new traverse looks pretty tempting for only a few hundred more bucks.
 
If your dead set on a light weight 6.5 PRC and dont want to build look at Phrophet River 6.5 PRC in a Christensen Messa 22 inch barrel 1800 bucks.
 
I think this one is definitely going to be a custom build. But the prices and supposed quality of some of the new rifles like the Ridgeline, etc definitely make a factory gun tempting.
 
Call up KS Arms get a 65SST done up on there action and barrel. Wild cat stock DM and your off just need to pick a colour. Lol.

6.5 saum or prc.
I have a 5.8 lb 6.5saum built on a tikka action, 147's @ 3050 with H1000.
If I were to do it again I'd go 6.5 prc, less recoil and similar performance.
My oal in the saum with 147's is 2.97"
 
6.5SS. I have a 26" barrel, so take that into consideration. 150 SMK @ 3165fps.
True short action cartridge. Super efficient case design, awesome brass available from ADG.

Thanks for the offer! Any idea on the timeframe of that order? That would definitely make it easier to jump into the Sherman.

6.5-.284 All you need. Componets are always available. Shoots FLAT, FAST, and Accurate and is a short action. Benchrest accuracy as long as you've done YOUR part on the Bench. Will KILL ANYTHING that walks the N American continent. Theosmithjr
