10days is about where I call it a day... I usually do 3-4 day hunts into the wilderness solo so it is much more difficult..
Can't find anyone who has any stones to go it with..
Might be where I live now in California but most get weak kneed when I say we can walk in about 5-7miles and hunt all week.. P&&&ies...
One thing I notice, is civilian packs SUCK.. Erberlestock, etc.. I have tried all of them but they are like big duffel bags. Yes, they fit your back but you can tell noone ever had to find a Claymore in the dark or the blasting caps.. either..
my total rig is right at 26lbs now... that is pack, tent, bag, pad, water purifier, bottle, socks. stove, gas, knives, machete and survival gear... I use a framed pack similar to a large alice pack but in a little larger configuration. I can find everything in the dark, in seconds..
I have a few suggestions.. Rehearse it all.. pack it all up and try it over and over and over in the backyard.. I still do it even after all these years.. I even set up my tent and make a meal in the yard.. set up the whole **** thing just like I would out there.. doing it tomorrow just in case I have an issue..
I've had some crazy thing happen out there but with the preparation I do, I still don't get too worried..
Lastly, on survival tips .. ALWAYS PLAN ON THE WORST HAPPENING.. I do the following on each trip in:
Change clothes at trailhead and put clothes in plastic bag.
leave detailed note as to location and times for going in and when I was to return to trailhead. hide a key to my vehicle that my girl can direct law enforcement to.
Give girlfriend a note with numbers to call if my all clear signal is not recieve on the day of exfil
boot marks are made near vehicle using water so they will dry and leave a boot mark for trackers.
if law enforcement opens vehicle they read note (hopefully)
Put dogs on clothes in bag as that was my last clear scent and go to last know location.
I know it seems a bit much but I've been at this a while packing solo and I would do that if I had a buddy go with...
Got plenty more I do in preparation but I have to have a few secrets..
Learned all my tricks from years as a Green Beret and survival school Instructor..
