What's the best solvent to remove copper fouling??

We use Tetra Gun. It is a gel that is easy to use and won't spill. Apply it on a nylon brush with a bore guide. Give 25 full length strokes and let sit for 10 min and jag it out with a patch. If you have a stubborn one, neglected too long, let it sit for 30 min before patching it out. We get some customer rifles that are pretty bad every now and then. With the Tetra we don't worry about harming the rifle.

Bore tech eliminator for me also, if there was ever a "pixie dust" product this is it lol , I also use their proof positive jags and brushes, I have killed alot of brain cells with Montana x-treme and it does get copper, bore tech is every bit as fast and thorough but absolutely no odor and will not hurt the barrel

Good topic. Always good to hear what cleaning products others are using with success. I have gone through about every brand on the shelf as well. I have used a lot of the Barnes CR-10 and it works really well for a quick cleaning of copper fouling. I recently tried the Boretech Eliminator and it seems to be really good without the harsh effects of the ammonia based solvents. I really like the Patch Out as long as you leave it in for an hour or more to work.

I started using Birchwood to clean and loosen anything inside...but for a serious cleaning I follow it up with JB Bore Paste....leaves them shinier than new.......then of course got to get them fouled again.....
Birchwood smells.....but not too bad.....

I've used Boretech, Montana X and the Wipe-Out products, but when my borescope still shows copper I use IOSSO bore cream. Bright and clean. For $6.95 the price is great.

Surprised no one talked about Barnes CR-10 one bottle lasts years, tried many of the products talked about but come back to CR-10, Honorable mention to JB's bore paste,a very good product also , Cheers!

Boretech Eliminator has been my go to cleaner for quite some time. Easy to use, no obnoxious smell, and will not damage your barrel, even if left in.

+1 for wipeout - I have not tried boretech eliminator yet (hard to find in canada).

In my experience the most effective way to completely remove copper from a barrel is through electrolysis. It's a common industrial process for parts cleaning.

Easy and inexpensive to build a device for barrels (welding rods make good electrodes). Some commercial units exist too I believe.

There are some instructions and some good alternatives here in case you find yourself without solvent and far from a gun store;
