The Venerable Whelen!!!Will be using one of two rifles, Ruger 77, tang safety, 35 Whelen with a Leupold 2 X 7 VXR Firedot with Barnes 225gr TSX, or a vintage 1895 Marlin in 45-70 with a Leupold VXR 1 X 5 Firedot scope shooting Barnes 300 grain FBHP bullets. Both are a deadly combination on bear.
Wow....talk about ridiculous. I hate that for you guys. But it brings up the topic of the impact of no non-resident hunting in Canada on the different animal populations.I had a friend that was setting up a trip fro him, his two sons and myself for spring bear. The problrm came when they -Canada wanted us to quarantine for two week in there hotels. Then ten days of hunting so the trip would be almost a month cost. No way- We cancelled the trip.
I'm black bear hunting, the Whelen and 45-70 are devastating, cannot imagine the 416 RigbyThe Venerable Whelen!!!
If not that, I'd carry my little RSM .416 Rigby.

Trophy retains more weight after it opens. Better penetration.Curious here, but why the change of bullets in the mag?
