What you don't like about the NXS and VX6 scopes

I really like the vx6 hd. I have a 3-18 and have not found anything I dont like. Leupold finally got the turrets right. So far it tracks as good as any NF I have had. I love my NXS, but its on my heavy rifle. They are just too heavy to put on a rifle you want to pack all day in the mountains.

I know the NXS scopes are tanks, and there is better glass out there. But for the money, I wouldn't trust the success of my time out afield in adverse conditions to any other scope.

The NXS is dependable and rugged, has decent glass, and tracks superbly, there a a few aspects that I consider weak points.
It's too big and heavy for sporter sized rifles. The parallax adjustment travel is too long and vague for fast corrections. When changing magnification the rotating objective is a poor design for use with flip up scope covers.

I can only speak on the NXS, 5.5-22x50 NPR1 ill. I use a neoprene cover or the rubber bikini cover they come with. Pop off quickly. Caps don't work well at all on it. It's heavy but not terrible. The eye box took me some getting used to on it, quite small compared to some swaros and leupys I've used.
Those are my complaints.

I still wouldn't change to another scope, it's built like a tank, it's on my heavy gun mainly for sitting on big cuts and canyons. I hike in miles to sit and glass. Saving 10oz on the scope doesn't matter to me for this gun setup and it's hunting purpose. I'd rather save weight on items in my pack.

Let's not forget that the illumination adjustment is absolutely prehistoric for a scope valued at over 2K. I got rid of all my NXS due to the list of issues above. The positive features just don't overcome the weak areas, namely the wonky parallax and the inferior glass. There are several other scopes in the $2000-$2500 class that don't require compromises. The scopes that convinced me to move away from and never go backward to a Nightforce NXS are the March Tactical, Vortex AMG (x2), and the VX6HD.

Own a NXS 5.5-22 and the VX6 3-18 (non-HD). Agree with most of what has been posted except glass quality. I find the NXS to be noticeably better than VX6. Perhaps the HD levels the playing field. The two other most noticeable differences to me are weight and turrets. NXS turrets are excellent in feel and tracking. VX is mushy, not sure of tracking yet - have not tested it. The other differences noted above exist, but for me don't stand out as much.

Let us know which way you go and what you think after you get some time with the optic.
