What powder and how much - .270?

I use a 270W. It likes SMK at 135grn with 59.9grns of H1000 at about 2900ft/sec; which is very accurate for my setup (1/2" MOA). A good backup powder for it is H4831 at 56.0grns; almost as accurate. The MOA is correct, I spend a lot of time and money developing loads specific to my rifles; most of which are hunting style rifles. Again, this is what I use, and perhaps this will help you get in the right direction.
On a side note... The best powders I have personally had success with in bolt guns are Hodgdon brand. My favorites are H1000, H4831 and Varget. I do like other powders such as RL-15, but I use this in my precision AR platform. I will lean towards a brand if I get consistent results. However, when it comes to accuracy, you have to go with what the Scientific Method provides; evidence! Brand loyalty is no better than a religion. Let the brands out there earn loyalty through evidence. Good luck, be safe, and have fun.

+1 on the Hodgdon website as a pretty good resource.
Also, I've mentioned about the Loadbooks USA series as a comprehensive resource for many specific calibers. I have a great 130gn load but no 140gn load for 270win.

My boys 270 likes rl26 with 140 sst. We worked up to 60 grains and got almost 3100 fps with excellent accuracy.
That's great. I've always used H4831 at 60 grains with 130 grainers. Maybe I'll tray this one and see what I get .

270 win + 145 gr Hornady ELD-X + IMR 4350 = 3210 fps from 26 inch barrel (I don't give powder charges as it might not be safe in your rifle) Remington 700 with Bartlein barrel will put 3 in a quarter at 200 yards usually with change left over.

140 game changer Rl26 3140 sd 3
This was after shooting drops I came back to 100 had .1r wind and my 0 is 200

I use 60gr of h4831 but I'm running a 117gr sledgehammer from Steve.

Vortex, do you have experience with the 117 gr. Bullet's performance on game that you can share?

I have a Tikka .270 Win that I'd like to use for deer with the Hammer 117 gr. bullet

Sadly I haven't had a chance to use it on game yet. I started load development near the end of the season and didn't get to take it out more than once or twice and of course that's when the deer didn't show up. if they do as well as all the reports I've heard from other hammer users then I'm sure I'll love em.:D

I'm a Hodgdon guy (Extreme powders) but must confess on a .270 Win with 130 gr Sierra game king #1820 SPBT I shot 10 into a ragged 5/8" hole, using Reloader 22 at the typical 100 yds. This from a custom Mauser 98 with a 26" Shilen barrel. Speeds were 3100 fps just below max charge. I tried my favorite '06 powders (Varget and H4831SC) but this rifle/powder combos just couldn't group as well. I just stopped searching right here at Re22. It's a hunting rifle...
Just start digging into the info from powder manufacturers and see if your friends supply some sample powders (or you buy) that match the load data and start experimenting carefully. You might be surprised what your rifle responds to.

I've had good luck with H4350 in my 270 using Barnes 110gr & 130gr TTSX bullets, accuracy is excellent, with the 110gr. bullet pushing close to 3,300fps, with the 130gr bullet pushing a little over 3,100fps, neither load is a max load.
