What meat grinder do you choose to process your game

1 hp or bigger, mine is an old cabelas and works good, there's surely better stuff out there.
They all suck for making sausages, get a sausage press for that.
Keep everything really cold, slightly frozen is fine, but nothing even close to warm will grind in mine

Yes even put the parts of your grinder (except the motor of course) in the freezer to get super cold first. And I like to place a bowl of ice under the bowl that I'm grinding into to keep the meat cold.

My grinder actually came with a freezer pack that straps around the grinder throat to keep all that cold while using it

morning, take mine to meat market. give them my mixture
of deer, pork and beef. they grind-mix for me. I take the
tub and make my own sausage to my taste. they
charge me for the grinding-mixing. justme gbot tum

I agree with the other guys , go big or save your money longer until you can buy a big one . you will not be happy with a small grinder .

I have a home built one , it works great . it's a #32 grinder that I had belt driven with a electric motor from an old clothes drier . that drier motor wore out so I bought a new motor for it . it's 1 hp . this thing does grind now . I can't find a pic with the new motor and all put together , but I do have a few pics to show you . when I updated the motor I also raised the grinder so I could put a deeper pan under it . the way I have it set up now it really works well . I'll guess at todays prices , you could build this for under $300 . if you're handy building things this is another option .

EDIT to correct motor HP
I really like that I may have to build one

My wife has one of those heavy duty KitchenAid mixers which she uses for baking. I bought the meat grinder attachment for $50. It works great for moderate volume grinding. Just this morning we ground up 2 deer with no problems at all.

We use the same unit. Has worked great for over 20 years. When I bought it for the wife at Christmas, an old lady standing next to me said it was a good purchase "I've had mine since the 1940's".

Watch for auctions in your area. Sooner or later a grocery store, butcher shop, or such will go belly up and they will auction commercial equipment. If you pay attention, you will be able to get real commercial equipment cheaper than the better stuff intended for home use. You haven't lived until you grind meat with a grinder with a 3" throat. Look for a grinder, cuber, and vacuum packing equipment. We bought a grinder and a cuber for $400 for both. All Stainless and hard to move around, but a real pleasure to use.

I have the Cabela's 1/2 HP Commercial and it should last a long time. Grinds a whitetail in just a few minutes. If you were doing several deer and elk at the same time, I would get the 3/4, but if your just doing one at a time, the 1/2 is plenty.
