What makes the 6.5 PRC special?

A better mouse trap. There's alway's going to be one that's what keeps the manufactures going. Lol
Closest comparrisons all things being equal. eg. A 140gr. and the MV.

.260 AI 140 H-4831SC 47.0C MV 2,965 2,734 28.0 COA 2.170
6.5PRC 140 Ramshot Mag 61.0F MV 3,041 2,876 26.2 COA 2.843
.264WM 140 H-4831 63.0 MV 2,976 2,754 24.0 COA 2.50

The prc compares well to a 6.5-06 or a 6.5-.284, the .264 mag has more case capacity and will give more velocity with the same bullet and pressure. Velocity gain will be about 1/4th the volume increase by percentage. Till you get to badly overbore. There is about a 16% increase in volume, so velocity should increase by about 4%. A little over 100 fps.

As some mentioned above pretty easy to obtain 3000-3100 FPS in a SA magnum if you will, cheap accurate factory ammo and with that being said Hornady makes/produces enough ammo so it's on the store shelves even in Canada, is that marketing Mumbo Jumbo ? Nope it's a fact I can grab a box of $40 ammo and go shoot .3" MOA groups with my 6.5 PRC,

is it any better than my 6.5-284 or a few other 6.5s not really but I don't have the reasonably priced ammo for my 6.5-284 either unless I handload, Nosler ammo is about twice what Hornady charges and it's no better imho.

I am surprised at all the negativity around the cartridge, you would think Hornady had done something wrong with introducing a new SA 6.5 mag cartridge with factory head stamped brass, something Remington and Winchester dropped the ball on ?
For the life of me I can't figure out why they never introduced the 6.5 in their respective SA cartridge lineups ????

Either way good to hear ADG and Bertram will be producing quality headstamped brass for the 6.5 PRC
Rumour is Lapua is thinking hard about adding it to their brass lineup.

On another note I received my reamer in the mail for my 300 PRC build !

What's the point of a 300 PRC? Since a 6.5 PRC is a necked down 300 RCM, necking up a 6.5 PRC is just remaking the 300 RCM. Unless you just want a new name for a cartridge that's already in production, then the 300 PRC is just redundant, and a waste of time and money. Seems totally pointless to me, but hey, I'm just Joe schmoke factory worker, what do I know?

Interested read, I don't own one but I do have a .264 win mag and 6.5 saum.

*Hornady has done an incredible job with advertizing for their new calibers they release, similar to the newer nosler calibers.

The 6.5 creed is virtually identical to the 260 remington but Remington either didn't market it as strongly as Hornady has or they simply didn't have the current day social media platforms, magazines, internet blogs, reviews, etc to really blast the shooting community with to make it take off.

For me, it would simply be a cartridge I could go pick up a couple boxes off the shelf for a hunting gun when I needed them. I don't need it as my current rifles do the following:

264 win mag - 140gr berger elite hunters @ 3,217 fps
6.5 SAUM - 140gr berger hybrids @ 3,104 fps

The PRC from what I've seen is somewhere around 2,950 fps with the 143gr eldx - if memory serves me correctly, that's pretty much 260AI speeds.

**What really seems to be appealing to the guys I've talked to on the 6.5 creed is they are primarily non-hand loaders that have never been able to achieve this type of accuracy before in a rifle. So, when they can go buy ammo off the shelf, just like they've done in the past - and it shoots less than 1/2 MOA consistently - they're ecstatic! It's as simple as that - they get handload type accuracy and they're still just buying factory ammo.

Just FYI.. is this the 6.5 PRC brass you're seeking? check out BertramBrass.com - it's being imported - you can pre-order now. (I'm waiting on mine in 6.5 SAUM.)

Sorry if this has already been posted (I didn't read the entire thread this time!)

After firing a few hundred rounds through two different PRCs, I haven't seen a single problem with the Hornady PRC brass. The cases that were obviously over pressured during load development and pressure testing are still holding primers and firing just like the rest of the batch.

Goto Gunwerks podcasts. They have an hour long preso on the how's and why of the PRC. As everyone has been saying, factory Ammo that is very accurate.
Just picked up an Fierce Edge in it but just waiting on the scope before I test it. Here is the "factory test target" with factory Hornandy Ammo. Serial number on target matches rifle.
