Is the follower and spring installed correctly? I know this is a brand new rifle for you, is this the first time you tried feeding and cycling it?

Seems like feed lips opened and aren't grabbing the sides of the cartridge enough. If it's a double stack or staggered, the follower isn't correct or the spring is installed incorrectly. It looks like they aren't springing out tip first, I think it's the follower or the feed lips.. check to make sure the box and follower isn't interfering oddly with the bolt too.

Is the magazine marked with what cartridge it is for? Maybe they included the wrong mag for your rifle.
I'll call him today. I got it yesterday and wasn't going to bother him late night so I felt like researching plus I like learning all this.

At first glance, I would say the magazine feed lips are too short and are losing control of the round early in the feed cycle.
I am surprised he did not do a functional check on that system. I hope it's an easy fix and you do not have to sent it back.
