What happened to gun shows?

Gun shows here in Alberta are the same way cheaper to buy new. If you want to sell your gun is worthless though until the guy at the table owns it. Every thing here is the same way you really have to shop to save.

I once saw a placard on a table at a gun show that said it all =
Why is it that all of my things are junk and everything on the exhibitors table is good stuff. (I cleaned it up) but you get the idea.

there's some good deals here and there if you look long enough. i havent been to one in a long time because it's cheaper to just buy stuff online. i really only go to buy stripped lowers for an AR build and there's a booth that sells match .308 175gr ammo for just over a $1/round. guns are usually overpriced and optics. if you look hard you can find mags and accessories for a decent price, but i dont usually have 2-3 hours to roam the tables.

Mine motto became simpler-I'd rather give it to some one I like than sell it to you at that price-then I do.

The gun shows here aren't much more than a pawn shop. The venders buy there tables to get first pick at the good deals. They walk the show before it opens buy good deals then mark it up and put it on there tables. Then offer less than half value for a trade that you bring in. I know a couple people who run a show and are always bragging of the deals they find.

I have never had any luck with either. I guess I don't have the haggling gene. I look at the price and either take it or leave it. I sell the same way. Guess that's why I end up purchasing online or my local gun shop. I will pay more to the shop owner just to keep local business going and the help they give. I still order ammo online. The shop owner said he couldn't match the online guys on price. I will still pick up some from him time to time.

The media. The last four administrations. Gun grab fear stoking. Marketing by companies like Ruger, Hornady and Remington etc. YouTube. Video games involving highly detailed firearms. The internet. Big box "outdoor stores." Idiots thinking they can stop the gubmemt with an AR and a box of 55gr. Federals. Greed. Uninformed consumers.
Oh, and the media... left and right.
All of these things are what happened to gun shows.

Believe it or not. We have gun shows in CA. They are the same. I looked at a beat to hell rem700 short action for a build. 243 I think it was. Stock was cracked, barrel&action had exterior surface rust, and the bore had not been cleaned in 40 years. Guy wanted $550 for it. Would not budge a penny.
