What about using computer spray duster as a barrel coolant

SS, wouldn't be cost effective. Years ago I wanted to cool my barrels effectively and cheaply. I had an air mattress battery powered pump and some hose along with an old bore guide. Works great here in the Az heat to cool my barrels efficiently. Around $10 for the pump at wallyworld. Epoxied the hose to the pump connector. Works great and very durable.

too expensive and i bet it would be hard to cool it consistently. you'd probably leave some spots hotter than others and that could throw off accuracy. i like dosh's idea. let it run for 2-3 minutes and it would probably be cool to touch....depending on barrel diameter

I do what Dosh does. But now they rechargeable pumps that can even be charged with a cigarette lighter slot in the truck. These are only about $20 bucks on Amazon.
I have one and it works great.

Same for me, Coalman air mattress pump $12,,, pace your shots then kool down,,, 2 or 3 ish minutes is lots.

Normally I lunch 3 to 5,,, then go into kool down mode,,, easy simple frugal and fast

Have had some odd reactions from shooters at the range. Saw a guy shoot about twenty 300WM shots in <10 minutes once, then grabbed a wet towel out of the ice in his cooler and lay it sizzling on the barrel. Cringeworthy! That's when I built my air cooler.

Yes it works just fine sometimes I turn the can upside down and shoot some liquid thru and then air, cools a barrel right down. As others have said it is expensive. But that is not the question you ask. I buy it by the case at Costco.
There are a couple of dedicated barrel fans on the market now.

I use the riflekühl from Magnetospeed. I'm very pleased with its performance. Small, compact and cools the barrel efficiently. Like Dosh said, there are some pretty interesting faces and comments for guys at the range.

I personally don't recommend any external methods of cooling a barrel. Many methods are much colder than ambient temperatures and could stress the barrel if only for a moment.

Air cooling is the best way because it allows a slow and steady cool down. And if you stand the rifle muzzle up it creates a natural draft through the bore. If you are pressed for time a chamber/bore cooler is very effective and user friendly.

I have one of these also but the Magnetospeed is much better quality. The chamber chiller is very thin plastic and looks like it was assembled in a sweat shop by little kids with hot glue guns. I knocked mine off the bench one day and it cracked so I had to epoxy it back together.

Good to know, I think they are 3 D laser printed. I have not had any problems with mine but will treat it kindly.

I will admit I bought into one of the "CPU cooler fans" fashioned as range flag for a barrel cooler gizmos. I got the original BarrelCool that all the others are copied from. Was not very happy with it. CR123A batteries get expensive! And the air flow produced is no where near the air flow created by an air mattress inflator.
So, I went back to my humble rechargeable mattress inflator. Cools really well and can be recharged with the cigarette lighter in the truck on the way to the range. I just would not spend the money on a CR123A battery powderd cooler again. Understand how a up and coming PRS star might want one though. But that's just me.
