When we were in south Texas working like south of Laredo we ate dog at a Mexican restaurant. I didn't think it was bad . I'm not sure I could butcher ol sparky up and cook him but , then again I've never been truly starving either. I'd eat horse or donkey if it was on the menu

AOC wants to get rid of the cattle, because they fart to much. So we might be eating horses, and donkeys.

France and Italy consume large qualities of horse meat prepared using difference methods. I was able to have several preparations over the period of time I was there, not just fancy restaurants either. Some were plain and simple common everyday eateries. All were excellent. I've had a significant number of meats prepared from African animals as well as some snake and lots of prime alligator. Another favorite is cabrito or pit roasted young goat. Heck, as a child we had scrambled eggs and calves brains for breakfast! Remember Veal or Foie Gras? Rarely if ever do I discriminate when it comes to well prepared food.

Currently I have 43 horses in training for dressage and a couple of retirees. None will be eaten as they are raised and trained for a different reason.

That's a fact. Back in Pa. my friend had a problem with coyotes coming in and killing all the lambs and a few adult sheep on their farm game warden told him to get a donkey. He did, no more dead livestock.

I Loved mine and treated them extremely well, and made sure they went to better homes when I no longer had time to ride every day.

There will never be a shortage of feral horses. The rescues are full, and dump jobs on public land common.

I have several of PO Ackley's early books where he tests many wildcat cartridges, one medium was feral donkies and wild horses. Great old books. Alot of what he did was for the Army so I guess he got a pass on the shooting of feral stock.

I've eaten horse a lot, in my youth we had a dedicated 'horse butcher' in the city near where we lived and I remember as a kid 'travelling' with my dad on my tiny bike to go shopping there once every two weeks or so. We weren't very rich and horsemeat was cheaper. Sweet memories, it is now a 15 minute bike ride and the world seems smaller.
I still think there is nothing wrong with eating horse but the last years we had some scandals over here (Netherlands, EU) where horsemeat illegally was mixed with beef and sold as beef. Apart from that the hygiene wasn't ok so, in the end it's horsemeat that gets the bad name while basically it is a good protein source. At the moment I don't know any address where to buy, a pity really.
Anyway, as the original poster, I won't be coming over to cull your feral donkeys, especially when they're protected by whatever fancy law you have. We have our own 'people who live in cities and make laws about things they may not be knowledgeable about' and 'people who think animals should be allowed voting rights'.

There weren't a bunch of tree huggers back when P.O. Ackley was shooting for the military and improving on factory cartridges. It could be said that Ackley was saving the environment from the donkeys and horses that would have eaten up everything available.
