What 17 HMR is everyone shooting?

I have a volquartsen it is basically a 10/22 that shoots .17hmr its under an inch at 100 yards also have a ruger precision it's a little heavier so not much walking around with it but also under an inch at 100 just recieved suppressor for them so looking forward to trying it out

I've had a Savage 93r17 since they first hit the market. Thousands of rounds through it and never had any problems. Shooting paint balls on golf tees at 100 yds gets boring so we started shooting at 1/4" thumb tacks. I can usually hit 4-5 out of 10.

Shot chucks & Yotes to 200. yds easy shot squirrel or PD 100+++.
We shoot Hornady 17HMR 20gr HP XPTs with a muzzle of 2,400fps
We have a 300 yd 22 Rimfire range at our PRS Range so can get the pratice. I need to put up thicker steel to shoot the 17 because the 17 goes through the 22 targets.
We have a Leupold VX 2 3-9 X33MM EFR CDS so can dial right in. Our Krestel gives a little different ballistics, but wanted to show what the bullet shoots.

My Savage 93 17 shoots well, but the magazines are EXTREMELY unreliable - basically a single-shot most of the time.

What are you guys doing to get them to be repeaters?

Mine is a little picky on the first round occasionally but it's fine after that. One thing I habitually do with any rifle/caliber is to push upward on the mag after the first bullet loads. (Maybe that helps without me knowing it?)

Have any of you Savage shooters had head spacing issues or firing pin issues yet? See a lot of them around here have issues after a few hundred rounds. It seems like its just a matter of time before they need work done.

No issues here at all but I DO NOT dry-fire rimfires!

I use expended brass a time or two as a snap cap. No issues either.

Have heard this also and it is probably true. But my 17HMR, for whatever reason, consistently shoots Hornady better than CCI. Also, on lots of CCI, I have shot, the neck splits on firing which does effect the accuracy.

Well, you got me curious re: Hornady vs. CCI. Decided to give the Hornady load ( 20 grain HP XPT )a try.

Yes, at one time CCI was loading everything except Winchester. Not sure if they still do. CCI loaded to whatever specs the other companies wanted.

First low shot was a sighter. Next five were one ragged hole. 100 yds. The bolt has been polished and trigger spring shortened. Trigger is at 8-9 oz.

Have you tried the CCI A17 round? It is a little hotter and gives us a better pop at 200+

We tried the 17gr and the 20gr had better groups with our rifle.
May try again, have a few boxes of CCI 17gr stashed away somewhere.
