What 17 HMR is everyone shooting?

Anybody else encountered ammo variability? My Savage 93R 17 with varmint barrel can shoot a sub-MOA group at 100 yards but not all the time and not with all loads.
It seems there can be variations. My Savage was ok with all but not great. The Tikka has only ate Hornady 17gr and I see no reason to change as it likes them.

Considering purchasing a .17 HMR for controlling the local woodchucks around the house and for general plinking. It looks like there are many options out there, so I am curious what brand and model everyone is shooting and having good luck with. The popular one online seems to be the Ruger Precision Rifle.
I was slow & reluctant to get into the .17 HMR caliber but once I did I found out what a hoot they are to shoot. I got a Savage 93R17 BSEV just because. I really like it and I catch myself wanting yet another .17HMR but maybe this time in a semiauto.

I'm shooting a Savage 93R17 HMR. 100 yds group is +/-0.25 MOA with Hornady 17 gr V-Max for varmints & coyotes and Hornady 20gr XTP for hog head shots. Very satisfied with it!

One of the BEST Auto Loaders. There were manufactures that came out with semi Auto 17 HMRs but they didn't work. Volquatersen even had some issues in the beginning, but they were th manufacture that worked out the issues. Our Volquatersen 17 HMR shoots GREAT without any issues and is a TACK Driver.
Great customer service!!!!
I was just looking at some receipts the other night and - YES they are expensive. This model that we have is no longer available.
Hit a squirrel, PD, Ground hog, or a Yote at 200 yds++ in the kill zone and DIRT. Those Hornady 20gr XPTs!!!!
Man, I would REALLY like to see a 200++ yard shot on a squirrel, PD, or just about anything for that matter with a 17HMR! On video, perhaps? That`s some shootin` there, Tex !!

Now I am really considering the CZ457 - it is a nice looking rifle for sure! I feel like it is a flip of a coin between the Bergara, Tikka, and CZ - all will probably shoot really well.

In addition to Timney triggers, Area 419 makes a few aftermarket goodies for the cz. My 457 is wearing and A419 rail and bolt knob. They also sell Lilga aftermarket barrels.

I have the Savage 93R17 BTVSS bolt action.17HMR 21" bull barrel with laminate thumb hole stock. Very accurate and affordable, and will do well for your intended use. Good trigger too!
Same model I believe

Both of mine are finicky with the ammo. One shoots the Hornady V-Max fantastic and the other will only shoot the CCI with the hollow points.

My cz 453 17 is the same way. It shoots certain bullets better than other and one bullet terribly. Similar to many bolt guns.

That's reason many target shooters will run a tuner. Not only do they like different bullets and brands but the same ammo can vary greatly from lot to lot. At 200 yards my 457 target shoots cheap federal target better than $11 per box SK Long Range...go figure.
