My favorite shot of the year was watching my sort of adopted 15 year old hunter shoot her first elk with a corelokt from her .308, at 50 yds.

I did shoot an elk at 593 yds with my 280AI and that's about as far as I've ever shot one.

185 yards, cow elk with a 146 Hammer Hunter in a 7mm Wby.
Next was 60 yards on a bull elk with the 300 Wby and 180 HH.

Take them close when you can!
