What’s your longest kill shot of 2022?

All my big game was fairly "close" this year with the farthest being a whitetail buck at 570 yards and both my Idaho and Oregon bull elk being in the low 300 yard mark.

I finally had a good shot on a coyote from the deck this afternoon. He was standing next to a bush in the middle of a stubble field covered in snow facing head on. Not such a good situation for him. Lined up on him with the 6 dasher and a 105 A Max and sent it. Watched him through the scope take it in the base of the neck and pile right up without a wiggle. Oh ya he was 770 yards.

Mine 416 yards, elk with 6.5 SAUM Berger 144
Sons 608 yards, elk with 6.5 SAUM Berger 144
Sons 100 yards, deer 50Cal muzzle loader
Brothers 1006 yards, deer 7 SAUM Berger 180
How did you like the performance of the Berger 144, did it exit? How fast is it going in the saum and barrel length?

I shot 2 deer with the 77 tmk this year out of the 22cm, the other at about 235 yards. I hit the first one in the shoulder and it shattered the scapula and I lost a good portion of the shoulder. The second one I made sure to keep it behind the shoulder but still hit a rib, destroyed lung and front of liver but didn't lose anything other than some rib meat. First deer didn't even twitch, was lights out immediately, 2nd lifted his head after he hit the ground but didn't take a step. I found the green tip of the first bullet but nothing else, didn't find anything from the second.
The 77tmk sounds like a monster in shrimp clothing! I've just used a 88 eld on a coyote. Frontal shot zero damage, but might be a bit splashy on deer , etc but still work fine.
I was thinking about the 77tmk in the 22creedmoor but seems like it might be a bit too much of a good thing, unless you get 300 yards plus. They need to make a 90+ grain TMK!

Probably no more than archery hunters or rifle hunters do while still hunting. If I was to guess I'd say less than those mentioned above. I've been long-range hunting for more than 30 years and never crippled and lost a deer, did I have to take a second or third shot yes but NEVER had one get away.

^^^^^^^^^^ this

I'm much more believing that the "old timers" of any age that pride themselves on shooting so rarely that one box of centerfire ammunition lasts a decade for them are likely to wound a creature than us maniacs that waste all our time and money perfecting the art of the rifle haha

Now if we could just get the critters we hunt to hold perfectly still while we lob four or five at them.... then get their vitals to grow substantially... until then we shall have to embrace allen magnum cartridges.
Sorry you have to take 4 or 5 shots at game. Maybe a little more off-season shooting would help?

I was referencing the post directly above me where a guy was using a 30-30 to supposedly hit something off-hand at 1000 yards. Namely pointing out that it wasn't real for a hunting situation. It was skilled exhibition but no more than that.

The thread within the thread is a group of us joking about how we're geared up for extreme long range and animals present themselves at traditional or less than traditional ranges. The written word traditionally was able to communicate humor but in a Twitter snapshot culture I think it's not able to.

My question1 I know most of you are good shots . I WAS WONDERING HOW MANY LOUSY SHOTS HIT AND CRIPPLE GAME AND LET THEM DIE IN MISERY.
Knock on wood, but the only "lousy shot" I have made on game was an archery mule deer buck at about 45 yards, last legal light, second to last day of season. As I released, the buck jumped the string (old bow, 220fps arrow). I swore I missed. Heard the arrow skipping along the rocks and the deer trotted off seemingly unfazed. Would have bet my truck on it.

Went back the next day after the morning hunt to try and find my arrow. Found a blood trail immediately that Ray Charles could have followed. I was dumbfounded. The buck went about 20 yards. Shot had sliced the femoral artery and bled him out quick and in a hurry.

We have missed a few shot on pronghorn in high winds that required us to get closer and sealed the deal. No one in my family, fortunately, has wounded and not recovered a big game animal.

Gotcha. My bad, I apologize.
