What’s Going On At LRH??

Most of the shooting/hunting forums I visit are turning into swap meets, so it's not just here. The one thing I do like about LRH is the mobile site is the best around, as you can see it's super easy to determine which threads are ads, I just skip right over them 98% of the time.

Yes, it makes since but I think the point originally was "Did you come to shop/sell, or to discuss?" I personally came to discuss/learn/read first, buy/sell second. When the balance shifts, more people sell than discuss. Don't get me wrong I enjoy eyeballing custom rifles for sale and dreaming about building or buying one, but I would rather read and learn how to get better with what I have, than scroll through adds. I haven't been here long enough to know, but I took the original post to mean the balance has shifted.

I honestly read the forums everyday, rarely do I contribute. I love checking the classifieds though, enjoy it like checking the stock market. I've met and had some great conversations with members over items for sale, vs probably never engaging with most of you

I believe a lot of the guys have been run off due to "$$$$$"...you can't post unless you pay type of thing...

Most of the "original" guys are still around on the internet...but yes a few have died off unfortunately...

I am by no means an original member, and for the most part I'm more of the 'student' than the 'teacher', but I too have noticed a shift.
I'm not saying it is totally a bad thing because it allows members to help each other out- the buyer is helped because they can get into the sport with a more moderate investment and the seller benefits because he is rid of something he is no longer using while having extra cash towards his next purchase.
Lately, it seems like LRH has had more than its' fair share of questionable sellers but I'm not so sure that other hunting sites haven't had the same problem. I really don't know what the fix would be, other than hunting the offenders down and flogging them.
Overall, I still believe that LRH is the best there is and despite having to weed through the ads I still spend way too much time lurking here!

I'm a newbie by most standards and don't post a lot, but do post about custom builds which is my main hobby aside from hunting, I love the buy and sell forums on all outdoor sites, especially this one as it has amazing stuff for sale

It is what it is. Change, for better or for worse.
I don't find it terribly inconvenient.

There is more marketing than ever. From individuals and business. Money makes the world go round. The only thing that competes with #1 in USA is money. And most of the time looking out for #1 is synonymous with looking out for #1's money.

Which leads back to, it is what it is...

The classifieds have grown tremendously. Seems it started happening soon after Len upgraded the forum engine; that made it much more mobile friendly. This mobile friendliness seems to have attracted the folks who do NOTHING but sell stuff.

It is most noticable if you use the "New Posts" button to read the forum. Would be nice if a preference could be setup that would allow exclusion of classifieds posts when using the New Posts button.

Glad this got brought up. Hope Len reads this thread.
