Interested to know if anyone is shooting one of these 5 LB guns in any of the hotter cartridges like 300 Weatherby, 338 RPM etc. With the new recoil pad and brake I would think they are fairly manageable. My question is more about what they are like when you put the thread protector on instead and shoot them that way. The 338 RPM with the 18" barrel puts up some pretty stout recoil numbers even just using 200 grain bullets at 2800 fps. Makes 37 ft lbs of recoil, assuming a hunting weight of 6.3 Lbs with scope and sling. and a recoil velocity of almost 20 FPS.

If I'm gonna shoot something with that much recoil, it's gonna be a 458 lott so I can put that thing on the ground. I don't wanna dig around with a light caliber and a light rifle.

I bet it's still pretty manageable. I had a Ruger M77 338 Win Mag that was about 7.5# ready to hunt and recoil wasn't that bad, even with the terrible old boat paddle stock. The better stock design on the Weatherby should make it pretty easy to shoot.

Dad bought one of them in the first generation Backcountry Ti format in 300 Wby.
I do the load development in the family, and I've shot that rifle plenty of times - with the brake.
Zero issues at all, and you'd never know that the rifle weighed so little when it comes to recoil.
I have yet to try it with a suppressor, but if I were it would have to be a lightweight suppressor so as not to make it muzzle heavy.

Do not be afraid of one of these rifles at all. The stock configuration/recoil pad make a huge difference.
I think you could shoot it without the brake and it would feel like you'd expect out of any "regular" 300 Wby rifle.

Well, found a really good deal on a Left Hand 338 RPM, so should be here in a few days. Ordered dies and brass to go with it. Will make up some test loads and give her a whirl.

Do you mind sharing where you found brass and dies? From previous posts, I think you're in Canada as well. I'm building a 338 RPM later this winter.

Prophet River has Redding and rcbs dies, Weatherby brass, 83 per 20, and loaded ammo. Have it for the 6.5 as well. Bighorn sales has Peterson 6.5 that you can neck up. 200 bucks for 50.

Thanks. I think I'll maybe get brass from Hammer bullets. $98 per 50 for Petersen. But I'll have to do some figuring, with our dollar so low. Be similar to Bighorn but with proper head stamp and no sizing.

Had the same thought, so I already checked with Steve Davis at Hammer; they can mail us Bullets but they cannot send brass.

Oh really, I didn't know that about the brass. I've gotten many shipments of bullets. Stupid laws that make no sense.
