Was the 6.5 cm really a necessity?

Short highly efficient rounds very accurate but that does not mean they are good for hunting. I would like to see proof from Berger and Hornady that their bullets perform well on deer size game because our gell test prove otherwise

Please elaborate. Seems contrary to what I've read and experienced shooting deer with them.

So...what is your favorite - based on the gel tests...for hunting large deer like critters? I hunt Elk.

Double lung and heart shots are great markmanship but does not mean a bullet is an efficient bullet for handling big game. Some people do not get a perfect broadside shot and the bullet must penetrate also

This came through while I was typing. So your TMK still penetrates? I would expect performance similar to the Bergers and Hornadys from a tipped match bullet, but have no experience with yours. Looked through the blog for more info. How far back was your post?

Well we've shot deer with both hornady and berger. They all died very quick so........
Berger bullets penetrate 2 inches then explode leaving a huge wound chanal upto 10 inches deep. They do not exit. High shoulder shots are best with since they do not exit and u will not have a blood trail. Hornady accubonds are the only bullets u should use for elk. They will work well and have full penetration and leave a good blood trail. Sierra's HPBT's will do the same

Have you tested the eld-m line? Curious to see if it lined up with the performance I had.

Mitchell, thanks for all of the information. Nice buck too. I'm just curious which Berger's you are referring to that only penetrate 2" and fragment. I'm guessing that all of their styles do not respond to the gel in similar manners. What kind of speeds are you using to compare the different bullets?

Thanks,

Derek

I will be testing the 130 Berger and accubond mid January. Hope to shoot multiple deer and compare wound channels. As far as guys say that the x47 is always run over pressure, I really don't know. I go by the usual signs of pressure and with the loads I use there's no pressure signs. As posted earlier I cannot run a accubond as fast as a Berger. My 130 accubond runs safely at 2850 fps. But to be fair it's not the same reamer used as my RBros rifle. I do believe Travis has developed and great 6.5x47 reamer over the years. I am amazed every time by what this little case will do.

The Berger bullets were the one they advertise for hunting. The bullets do perform exactly ss Berger clams they will and has our test have proven. The problem is we as hunters do not always get a perfect broadside shot and may need alot of penetration on a raking broadside shot that will anchor our game. Berger does not offer a bullet for sich situations
