I've got some 55 grain Speer bullets on the way and some W748 that I purchased a while back and would like to hear from anyone using this powder in the 223.
I have other powder's on hand but I would prefer to use this up.
The rifle is a Remington 700 and this load will be used primarily for plinking but expect good accuracy.
I have numerous loads for the rifle using other powder and bullets combinations but am interested in results using W748 with similar weight bullets.
So is it worth opening?

I used it exclusively in .223 loads for my AR. That was when 55 grain was the most popular. I seem to remember the load was 21.6 grains of WW748 if reloading commercial brass. If military brass was used, I think I loaded it with 20.0 grains BUT it has been YEARS, and all of my data was lost in Katrina in 2005. Please do lots of research, and don't use the charges I listed. I am recalling from memory, which is old and weak.

EDITED: After seeing M1A1ABRAMS post (#7), my memory for my powder charge was way off. Please disregard my numbers listed. I do remember that the load was very accurate and the rifle functioned perfectly, so it had to have an adequate charge, which obviously was not the charge I posted. Sorry...

I'm kind of surprised on the amount of responses already. I did a search before starting this thread and there was barely anything so that's why I'm asking.
I appreciate your help.

I used it extensively with 50 and 55g BTs. I don't remember the load but know it was compressed. It was fast…only 200fps slower than what I was getting out of a 22-250 shooting the same bullets with 760. Those two rifle reaped havoc on many many prairie dog and ground squirrel towns when I lived out west. Both shot 5 into an inch and 3 into a dime whenever I punched paper. I was satisfied enough with the performance that I never chased COAL variation. I've been meaning to load up a few hundred of both and leave at a ranch I frequent in MT.

My very best loads in 222Rem, 223Rem and 222RemMag have all been with 748. The most accurate loads I could ever get were with 748 by a long shot. I tried every powder available, and none came close. Don't have a 223 anymore, but the other 2 are still around.

Cheers.
H380 didn't show any promise in 222 Rem Mag ? I'm m also curious about IMR 4198

Sorry, H380 is not available here. Did try 4198, it worked well, but not 1 hole groups like 748. I also loaded my 222 and 222Mag to match 223 pressures. The only other powder that worked well was 4320, but only in 222Mag loads using 60g Partitions.

Cheers.

What twist rate were you using with the 60 gr partitions? 1/14 possibly 1/12 ?

I have loaded a lot of 55g with it in the past. I really liked the way it performed.
I mostly use H335 and WC844 now but I won't hesitate to use 748 again
