VX5HD 4-20x52 - Anybody have any experience with this scope?

What does this have to do with the 4-20x52 VX5HD? Have you owned one and had a bad experience and that is why you are recommending a different optic?
No I do not. My friend has one on his .338 lapua. I have shot his and it was a determining factor as to why I went with the schmidt for my .300 win mag. While the mkv is a great scope it all comes down to personal preference. The mkv reticle just was not for me.

Did your buddy have a VX5HD or a Mark 5HD?

My turret should be here any day and I will verify. My buddies VX6 on his 28 Nosler was spot on out to 1000 so far. Hasnt tried it to the 1600 it can dial for yet.
Messed with ordering the cds, too many variables in temp, altitude and pressure when you can rifle hunt from August to December. I've found the moa cds dial to be very accurate, also the bc on most bullets has changed from lot to lot making the dial inefficient but easily adjusted if you stay moa. $.03

This is a confusing thread. The OP asked about a VX5 and everybody is comparing a MARK 5. They are VERY. VERY different scopes and the glass isn't even close to the same. The VX5 seems to just be a feature-rich VX3.

I went to the range today with my new VX5 3-15 and it lasted about 12 rounds before letting go. Good thing I caught at the range and not on a hunt. I put it on because my Bushnell finally let go. Can't win with this rifle lately!

I wouldn't buy anymore since I can't trust them.

Did you actually read the thread? 2 different people stated that Leupold told them that the glass is the same on the mark5 vx5hd and vx6hd.
So you are wrong when you stated.

Might want to re-read the thread. I don't know what the words "close to same" means, but talking with tech at Leupold yesterday to prepare to answer this thread, accurately; glass in those scopes mentioned have different "formulas for glass and coatings"!

Thats interesting because I called Leupold a couple days ago to help with my decision and the tech told me they were the same...eyeroll:) I like the glass in the VX5HD and VX6HD alot, so it doesnt really matter to me.

You are right, that is very interesting and surprising. May require a visit. What can I say? I also own and like my four VX6's( two are HD's) on current rifles. Mark 5(5X25X56) is my most recent purchase and to me represents a measurable improvement. Like I said, on clear days( no mirage), don't need the spotting scope to see holes on 300 yd target. Maybe, it is just the 56MM objective lens compared to the 52MM lens?? Really don't know but seems more clear to me and I am sure liking the MOA reticle in the FFP Mark 5. Never had an FFP before.

This was my question earlier in the thread. 2 people responded say they had firsthand heard from Leupold glass was same on all 3
I have heard plenty of different people state this but never with any proof that the statement is true.
Does it say this on Leupolds web site ?
Did anyone actually hear this first hand from Leupold?
I will be calling Leupold today to see if I can get a straight answer .
As for vx-5 being basically the same as a vx3i is wrong I own both and they are not even slightly close enough to be considered basically the same .

If they made the Mark 5 in a SFP, I would probably lean that direction.

I have also been looking at the Mark 5 - I keep trying to love FFP scopes for hunting, just had my third failed attempt:). I buy them, mount them, hunt with them, curse them, sell them - then repeat. Its a vicious cycle for me! Lol
Do you still have a smile on your face? When I miss with my 300 Weatherby I still have a smile on my face. Some toys just make one happy
