So, I went out to tune my Kestrel the other day. I had a good zero, good bc, but it was still throwing rounds high and right at 600.

BC = 0.295 g7 Berger published
Velocity = 3050fps Labradar
zero at 100 yds….spot on

This will cause my Kestrel/rifle combo to be high about 0.3 mil at 600 yards.

So, how do you tune your Kestrel. That day changing bc to 0.315 and velocity to 3100fps worked, but I have to believe it is off at 1000 yds by a mile!

I wonder if I should of tuned the vertical offset at like 300 yards, then maybe bc and velocity would be closer to actual??

how should it be done?

Same you do any software. Muzzle velocity for drop for anything supersonic.

DSF for anything transonic and beyond. If you have the elite. Use CDMs, they are generally more accurate then BC's.

If you don't have an elite then you have to do it the old way. BCs profiles tweaked for close, mid, far, and further.

You can do it a few ways. Zero your ACCURATE rifle at 100y. Get a target at long distance, say 1030y(as I did this yesterday) dope called for 7.0 mils shooting at 95° dof and 12° angle up. Bullets were impacting high consistent waterline by 0.2 mil, this was using the AB BC curve(not tunable) for 300 elite hunters. I adjusted my speed from chrono data 2810 to 2840 and this gave me a dial up of the actual dial needed of 6.8. I then shot the rifle out to 1250y 10° up and 110° DOF with called dope. From kestrel and perfect waterline to target. The other method is to leave you're velocity as is, and tweak the BC to match your drops at distance in the same way I did above. I have a fixed bc with the custom AB curve so it's not editable.
