First step after depriming is to use an electric engraver to put a mark across the case head and then color it in with a magic marker
If the marker gets too obscure or disappears there is always the engraved mark to keep track and can be refressed with the marker as needed
I can go to any box of ammo across 7 different calibers and pick any piece of brass, even if fired years ago, and tell you how many times it's been fired
