Throat burned out or not???

I think the STW is to long for my mag. Max in my mag is 3.368 and that is touching on both ends. Recoil makes the tips flat.
Went to range yesterday and got lucky. Started out with first group at 3.51". With 3 min between shots I found the 150 Rem Cor-loc would group at 1.70" at 3115 fps. Coal was 3.303. That is the best group to date but still pretty sorry!
Will continue working on coal but still thinking about new barrel maybe in 7mm/300 win mag.

Your mag length will be an issue in that as well. Most good 180 vld loads are 3.6ish ofr top velocity. Cor locs are not the most consistent bullet out there. Try some pro hunter's or ballistic tips. Also if you want better consistency you will need to get concentricity (sp?) gauge like this.

With the big jump the straighter in the case it is the more consistent it will be. The tangent ogive bullets are going to be better suited for your rifle and everyone makes them. If your looking for a rebarrel an 8tw 7 rem mag with a good reamer will solve alot of your issues.

If you WANT an STW, you can use your action. You will need a new barrel, a magazine, spring, and follower for a .300WBY mark 5, and a 300 bolt stop.

That seems like a lot of extra trouble and expenses. Could go back to WBY but would have same free bore and twist. Will keep working on coal and see where that leads me.

Is there any damage to the crown whatsoever? I mean even the slightest nick? Refacing and crowning is less than $100 most anywhere. How do 154gr factory loads shoot? Are they 1-1/2" or less? If not, I would first suspect the barrel crown.

Lots of great suggestions here. I love the 7Wby and have two of them. One on a Mark V action with a Bartlien barrel, one on a Defiance action with a Proof barrel, both are 8 twist and shoot very well with 168 LRX's at 3150 up to the 195 Bergers at 2950 - 3000. My rifle builder has a custom 7Wby reamer with 1/2 the standard Wby freebore. It allows me to work up my loads with the consideration of seating depth too.

My first suggestion is to do a borescope, if that checks out, then try working up a load with rounds the 7Wby was originally designed for with that 10 twist. Give it a few trys, and if nothing is working, then rebarrel, with a custom reamer. I can recommend my builder if you would like.

The only factory shells I have run through this WBY were made by Federal (FC) with 150gr BT. Appeared to be either Sierra or Speer. Over my Chrony they went 3239fps and grouped at 2.0 and no better.

Well not 154. On average the pulled BULLETS weighted 149.8 and were of BT design and each unfired case was stamped with FC.

I'd start .030 off lands and work in. Most 7s in my safe are not jump sensitive.

Most likely your biggest issue. Should be even all around. GUESS: Previous owner cleaned the thing from the muzzle end??? Just a guess. Also possible that wasn't true from the factory and the reason the guy sold the gun to you. Before going any further, and chasing your tail, I would suggest you take the rifle to a good gunsmith and have him to cut the barrel back 1/2", reface and recrown the barrel. Should set you back about the cost of a box of Weatherby factory loads. Then try what I asked you to do. I'll bet money it will shoot under an inch.

Good luck, pretty sure we are on to the problem, and the good news is it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg to get your rifle shooting well.
