Have you seen the deer? I thought they were coyotes when I first saw some running. Rocky Mt buck with dark horns can look like elk.

Our whitetails where I hunt have very dark racks, sometimes almost mahogany dark. When I take the really dark ones to the taxidermist they always drool

When I lived in CO we had zero whitetail, now they are all over.

Hopefully the whitetail that have moved into your area are the bigger strain, at our farm a three year old usually dresses at the 200 mark, 4+ tend to be 230-260 dressed. It used to not be this way, for the past 20 years they are getting bigger, 20 years ago a 200 dressed was very uncommon

We have a hybrid CA mule deer. Not big but way bigger than the deer North of Austin. Northern CA gets some big deer.
