The Ultimate Hunting Bullet

I just started shooting them this morning. But I will keep track of it when I clean it.
what is the actual OD of those? can you measure? do they measure right at .284" or slightly under? I ask this as I have seen pics online of the tlr expanded bullet and not all of them are showing rifling grooves cut into the jacket, I wonder if they are slightly under caliber ? maybe .2835"--or even a slightly tapered profile?

I get what you're saying. I'm thinking that "simply" adding a bit of a boat tail to the NP and giving the tip more of a VLD profile would help greatly. Heck, even just a boat tail and a good tip would make a decent difference, and probably not add a significant amount to the making of the bullet.
poly tip wouldnt hurt, the lead tips always seem to get deformed

I measured some and they are .2835 - 284". I believe that they are all .284. The ones that measured .2835" is probably me squeezing the digital caliper too hard.

They do have the Accubond....

my opinion only and not directed at anyone in particular,

get a bigger cartridge with a larger caliber bullet, there are far too many people out in the field these days with mini guns that barely carry enough energy to kill a bunny beyond 500 yards, they preach shot placement then shoot at game and go on a blood trail/tracking excursion, *** ?

If you shot an animal with a rifle, it MUST go down STAT ! if not .... you are simply mortally wounding it and waiting for it to eventually die, then high five each other on your prowess

get a bigger gun and learn how to use it, where the hell did all the MEN go ? all I hear these days is terrified little beeches freaking out over a bit of recoil

There are a lot of good bullets being suggested here, but I am not looking for the best alternative or compromise. I was hoping to start a discussion about how the ultimate LR hunting bullet would be constructed. My submission would be a VLD partition.

I shoot deer with 168 Bergers from a 7 rem Mag. That does a great job. But, I did have one not exit at 25yds on a large broad side buck. He died in view 75 yds later, but there was no blood trail in fresh snow. Seems like the same bullet with a Partion would have exited.

When I was still making long range, high bc bullets a few years ago, I experimented with a partition, of sorts, that performed very well. I was making 308 sized bullets for my 30 mag. I found by running a thin Sierra jacket and a much shorter 257 jacket swaged backwards inside the 30, I could make a very effective long range bullet that worked like a partition up close. It took two cores and was a bit complicated but worked very well. I also had an aluminum ballistic tip very much like the new Atip.

My 208 grain version had a bc of .345 which was pretty good for the times. I did kill some game very effectively.
