The Facebook crazies

How about more stories about "My long range AR10" or "I can hit steel all day long at 300 yards, lol a 12 inch plate" or "At the lease I shoot deer at 400 yards" or the 270 being the best round ever, this is from a post on a 270:
""I was watching my trace once, and cool thing, once it hit 500, it stopped dropping, hit its second wind, and starting rising again for extra elevation"

I was there. I saw it! Same thing with a bow. It take a yard or two for the arrow to reach full speed.

I had that happen once! But it was with a golf ball... And it didn't go quite that far... And then curved way to the right... And that's why I don't play golf!

The confusion should not be a factor. If you don't know about your own rifle, then you don't have much business trying to shoot long range or boutique bullets in the first place. That's how animals get maimed and hurt by crappy hunters trying to "wing-it" when they don't have a clue what they're doing, or they're trying to hunt outside of their own skillset.

As for the twist rates, let them figure this out for themselves, or by asking someone who does know, that can help educate them. Why should those of us who "can" and "know" have to suffer for those who "can't" and "don't"? That's almost a communist way of thinking put into a gun perspective...By saying that we should let the gun markets tell us what's best for us, instead of us knowing what's best for ourselves and our guns...

I'm not trying to insinuate anything, I'm just saying that I don't believe in idiot-proofing things. Let the people figure things out for themselves...If they survive, hopefully they learned their lesson...If they didn't, then good riddance to their DNA continuing to swim around the shallow end of the genetic cess-pool.

Just my opinion.

I'm not going to apologize for not being sympathetic to those who voluntarily choose NOT to strive for excellence, and try to cut corners. And I don't support ignorance. We are all born ignorant, but as we grow, we should constantly strive for better, and for more knowledge. Just because we'll never know everything doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to learn as much as we can.

If someone doesn't want to learn how to properly shoot long range, or want to learn about their gun or bullets or ammunition, or want to try to achieve the most accuracy they can from their guns, then they should not be trying to hunt long range in the first place, because that's inhumane to the animal they're shooting at. At least be courteous enough to the animal you're trying to kill, to dispatch it in as precise and humane a way as possible.

Does this clarify things a bit more?

That is how you come up with your reasoning to call companies that don't see the value in changing the current 25 cal standards, Communist?

Does that clarify the wow?

Yes, that clarifies the "wow", but you misinterpreted what I said/meant.

I said, "that's almost a communist way of thinking" by having others tell you what's best for you, than letting you knowing what's best for you. Don't read into that too deep Steve. I wasn't calling you or your company anything and I wasn't inferring anything about you or your company either. I know you're not a communist. I was referencing that one comment about letting the market tell you whats best, and only that comment.

Lol. I appreciate that. I think you might be reading a bit too deep into business decisions of rifle and component manufactures. I think they weigh out the pro and con of proceeding and make what they think will best serve their bottom line. No more and no less.

Steve

the crazies I'm most concerned about *are* the fanatical anti gun and often antihunting leftist/neobolshevik/progressive commissars, of which there are growing ranks in this country.

The fellow hunters and gun owners who have nuanced differences of opinions or who sometimes speak from a .....less than complete.....base of understanding are the last thing I worry about, in the grand scheme of things.

I know they do, but it just feels insulting and asinine to watch everything else get "updated" and "upgraded", while the .25 and 8mm keeps getting ****ed on, and doesn't even get a chance. I know a 160gr 6.5mm will beat a 140gr .257, but ****, could you imagine a 140 Elite Hunter .257 coming out of a .25-06 AI or .257 Wby? Those two would be the "new" standard for deer & antelope cartridges for the next 10+ years. Imagine a 140 Elite in a .257 Sherman... Now that would be one nasty LR rifle for steel and deer-sized game.

If somebody would give it half a chance, I honestly think it could go somewhere. Unfortunately, for the 8mm, not so much, as there wasn't that many different 8mm options that were ever really offered. 8mm Mauser, 8mm RemMag, & 325 WSM was about the only 3 mainstream 8mm cartridges offered over here, and none of those really stand a chance today up against the .338...Unless Berger would make a 300gr Hybrid .323 caliber bullet. That would be a BC monster.

I just think they should at least include every caliber in this new era of upgrading everything to "new" standards. If Remington would start building 5R 8" twist .257 barrels, and someone would make some cheaper lead jacketed 130-140 grain bullets, the .25-06 would be revived to its rightful place as one of the top deer cartridges of all time.

It would take a 7 twist in the 25 to compare or compete with the 6.5.

We are currently building an 8mm-338 Lap imp for a customer. Should be awesome.

7 twist or 8 twist...I'm fine either way, just as long as they do it. :D

Unfortunately, it would take some serious prodding by the public to get that done. If I won the lottery, I'd start my own rifle company making what the people want.

"rightful place"? This sounds like a grade schooler talking about a person.

If you really want to play with a .257 or 8mm you can get dies and a press from Corbin. The most accurate 7mm bullets I ever fired came from my own dies and effort.

I have a like new Corbin press if you are interested.

You do realize I reload, and have been for many years... And yes, I do reload for a few .257 calibers... And don't know what Corbin is, but I prefer to use my Rock Chucker Supreme IV and my RCBS and Redding Comp dies.

Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't make it a false statement.
