The 7SAUM

My 7SAUM is set up
Short Mesa Ti action
Manners EH1
Calvin elite trigger/22 in proof barrel
Swarovski Z5 3.5x18

Works great I settled on a load of RE23 and the 175 berger elite hunter at 2755fps. I took it on a Maiden voyage to Kyrgyzstan, too bad my ammo did make it...as it would have made fine billy medicine. While not my favorite rifle I own--it is up there. Oh and I agree--Remington missed the boat--this is one great cartridge.

What would make the 7 SAUM more desirable than the 7 WSM? I believe the WSM ballistics to be superior. Just trying to understand. Also if you were to build on a long action the Rem 7 mag also superior ballistics with plentiful supply of reasonably priced brass every where.

Great thread. I'm currently collecting parts for a 7saum build to shoot 180 Bergers. Sad, that Remington dropped the ball with this cartridge.
I think that it was more a case of us dropping the ball rather than Remington. They made the offering, and the shooting public rejected it in favour of the WSM version. What were Remington to do?
I have one based on a Tikka action and Bartlein 22" barrel. A wonderful hunting combo that shoots lights out and kills stuff real dead with 162 ELDM.

My main rifle is a 7 SAUM pushing the Berger hunting 180 at 2900 fps. Last Sept in Africa I think my buddy and I killed 14 animals with it. I put a 2nd shot into a Pattersons eland, but I think he was going down without it anyway. 30 yds to 513yds on that trip. Great caliber.

Rem 7 with factory barrel at 22". Scope is a leupold vx3 4.5-14-40 with a cds turret. Zero at 170 m I can dial up to 575 m with that load which is more than enough for my needs.

What barrel length? Powder? how many grains? That's a killer set up for sure

Didn't take you long to break your own rule.....lol

But in all seriousness, the speed you are getting with R26 in a S/A is spectacular. I just built the improved version (Sherman Max) on a L/A to sear the 180's and 195 EOLs our further to maximize its potential. We shall see how it performs.
