Terminal performance of the 6.5mm 140 eld-match (pics)

The biggest problem you will encounter sooner are later is a shot too the shoulder bone , causing the bullet too not penetrate , or a hard angling shot that will rip the jacket causing jacket and core separation , once again no penetration . The 143 gr eldx is designed for what you are doing with more of a safety margin built in for those tough shots . I don't understand why hunters are bent on using the 147 eldm when the 143 eldx wood be a better choice as a hunting bullet.
I've seen a 140 eld-m go through a 180lbs dressed northern bucks shoulder. Busted the entry shoulder and bullet stopped on the hide on the offside. I rest my case.

I will repeat again, please don't turn this into match vs hunting bullets debate. This is not why I posted this thread.

Looks like that 147 gr eldm is working well for you , at this point I guess there is no reason too change your bullet of choice . Their really was no offense intended , I missed your intent of your post, Congrats on your kills ,

I agree which is why I have been shooting monos for several years. I learned my lesson. Sometimes the perfect shot doesn't present itself. And a high majority of the time 300 yds and less. With the magnums I shoot I wouldn't consider anything but a mono with what I do but everyone is free to do their own thing.

It's not the 147, but the 140. We've killed an absolute pile of deer with this bullet. If I thought it wouldn't work, I wouldn't be using it, not would I recommend it to anyone. My goal as a hunter is swift kills. This bullet without a shadow of a doubt, desimates whitetails and Blackies.

I dont mean to come across as mean, but I've seen way to many threads go sideways and turn nasty lately. I'm not about to let that happen here.

Great, information. Looks like over kill. 😉
That recipe works very well. No need to change. Congrats
I have a tendency to stick with what I know works. But I'm ready to move on and try a different style of projectile. I'm thinking about trying a more "hunting" style projectile just not sure what style yet.

First, congrats on some great kills & thank you for sharing your data.

Being a fairly hardcore 6.5 guy, I have to ask. When you pick another projectile to test, are you going to stick with cup & core or sling a mono? I could make a couple recommendations either way, if you're so inclined.

I havent really decided if I'm going to try a mono or not. The plan is to go lighter for caliber next time around. Maybe in the 120-130 area where I can't get down to in a match bullet and get the penetration I'm looking for. I'm open to ideas

I've had outstanding luck with the 130grn Cutting Edge MTH. BC very close to the 130 Berger, stupid accuracy & highly consistent. Of course, the downside being price. If someone asks me about a "one & done" purely hunting bullet for a 6.5 Creed... I don't know if I could recommend a better one. 6.5 PRC, SAUM or WSM.... I may make a different recommendation due to the extra powder capacity.

Looks like the performance I've had with 168 a-max from my 308. The 143 eldx have killed a few deer on our place, at creed velocity can't complain but they're not bang flops we are used to seeing. At PRC velocity they're dynamite absolute love them. For whitetail those 130-140 with proper placement should be fine, they might not be designed for "hunting" but I've seen plenty of pictures and know plenty of folks using them to smash deer. If anything I'd lean towards the 129 sst I used the 95gr in 243 for years and they've always been stellar performers they've killed a truck load of deer filling nuisance tags for us. Doesn't seem to matter if they're at 20yds or 420yds they're mostly bang flop, I can't explain it but it's like a 25-06 with 115vld just hits like lightning.

Can't argue with your success if it ain't broke why monkey with it?
The only reliable way I've seen boom flops is shoulder hits. I've seen a bucks soak up hits with the 162 and 180 out of my 7mm rem mag and run 80 yards with nothing in them. If you don't take out their running gear, they usually will run a short distance

Unfortunately I'm running an 8 twist @ about 1000-1500ft ASL. I'm not sure I can stabilize that projectile especially in cold temps.

Looks like I could drop down to a 120 though
