Struggling w a new Leupold VX-6HD 4-24x52

Talked to my buddy. Without looking at it, he thinks it's an erector tube issue. He said that luepold does pretty Rigorous testing on customer returns. Mount it, do turrets tests, check that reticle is in correct position, it's still weather proofed, etc...He said they have a policy where they have to tell you what happened/what's wrong with it.

Full disclosure I haven't spoken to him in a couple of months and he doesn't work for them anymore and started his own gunsmithing business. He just informed me of that.
Thank you!

I doubt that it is a rail problem because you mounted the Vortex and it shot fairly well. If Leopold states that the scope is OK after test shooting, it almost has to be a ring problem. A new set of rings should be tried and if it eliminates the problem, you probably can get a refund for the bad rings. I had a similar problem and found where the rear ring attached to the rail there was a small bur on the left side of the ring that lifted it up and canted it right. Another thing you can check but difficult to find without a good magnifying 🔎 and lighting. Rings are much cheaper than a 3 grand paperweight. I would also look for either a different brand or a different place to get them if you want the same brand so they come from a different lot. I feel your pain and hope that you will get a positive end from your frustration my friend.

only think I can't seem to wrap my head around is thatI was getting grouping then I flyer-

gunsmith had it "on paper" from his shop and still took crazy adjustment windage and elevation to get it on-

crazy- hopefullyI learn more tomorrow after they shoot it-

fingers crossed!

What is your bench setup for sighting in?

I had such a similar experience as you are having a few years ago. Even lapped the rings to perfection in the shop. Then went out to sight in and shots went everywhere but center target. I took it back and we blacked the inside of the rings with a marker and ran the lapping tool through the rings a couple of passes to check out the alignment and WaaLaa, out of alignment again. So I bought new rings and upon comparing them with the others, we found the bur. Hopefully it will be the solution for your problem. The only positive thing I got out of it was the ring manufacturer gave me a certificate for a new set of rings.

Thank you!

Also, I wasn't clear, if they find an issue they will obviously fix it. My buddy said he is unaware of the "pride" issue with luepold where they will secretly fix it and then send back a report saying nothing was wrong.

Well it's definitely there, it happened to me.

He doesn't work there anymore so he was speaking from his personal experience as CS for luepold. Even though he left he still had a positive experience with them so there wasn't any bitter bias.

read my first post on this thread, I think you'll agree with my original assessment.;):)

Treading lightly here. Don't want to be labeled a luepold hater.

Oh yes I definitely agree. By who, fudds and employees?🤣🤣 They already think I'm a NF supporter. That's why my avatar is there as a troll.

UPDATE
LEUPOLD hasn't had time to test fire the scope on another rifle and not sure when/ hoped today, maybe next week. Said he was only having that done to appease me. Said HOLES in paper don't lie. He then said if they can't find an issue they will be sending the scope back. Not willing to replace the scope as we would then have 2 used scopes.

I'm not having the same Customer Service experience most have indicated- time to elevate it I think

I may become the next Leupold basher if this keeps up-
Completely FRUSTRATED
