Stock/scope combination

New year (almost) so new gun. Going to build a 300 Norma Improved on a Bat Vesper. Looking for advice for a stock and scope combination. I mostly run 42-44mm objective scopes so stock comb height hasn't really been a concern with hunter style stocks. My last build with a 30mm tube and 50mm objective I had to put a cheek pad on the stock to get a good cheek weld; I am going to buy a correct stock on this new one to avoid this. Would also like to avoid adjustable stock, but not against it if it is what is needed. Looking at McMillan Game Hunter and wondering what size tube and objective that comb would accommodate. Also have to consider the 1.25" shank for the Vesper. Or does it just require an adjustable and be done? Be an even mix of prone off a bipod and sitting off of shooting sticks.

I built this caliber in 7mm NMI some years ago with GAP. Wonder why for a very tactically focused rifle you are looking for a non adjustable stock? The recoil alone would warrant something that is going to align your connection with the rifle better to ensure you are driving the rifle correctly.

If you are looking for a range only rifle I am a fan of the MDT Elite chassis system. If for hunting, I ran an adjustable mini chassis McMillan on mine. I actually hunted with it for elk and it was bad medicine.

I prefer Kahles scopes. That rifle had a Gen III 624 on it and it was nearly perfect, IMO and IME.

You might consider a Manners LRH stock if you're trying to keep weight down. You get the benefits of an adjustable cheek piece at non-adjustable stock weights nearly. If you don't need the added hight you can just take the spacer out. AG Alpine Hunter, Manners EH, McMillan A3 are all great options too for a Norma.

As far as scopes, it would be hard to beat a tried and true NX8 4-32X50! Especially if you're wanting to avoid too much comb height. I've used that scope in low rings and 1.250" shank carbon sendero barrels, in long action builds without any issue. Another one to consider, the new Leupold Mark 4 6-24x52 looks attractive for the price.

@lancetkenyon.😂

Nimrod would be a good one or the McMillan Tracker Long Range would be another to consider.

What scope are you planning to run?

Would you consider buying an already built rifle?
Already have the action, bottom metal, dies, and reamer in hand so not really looking for a rifle.

Not sure on the scope. Was initially thinking NX8 but been reading about March quite a bit lately, just been trying to sort through all of their different options. The 34mm tube on some of their models is what got me thinking about the stock comb.

It will be purely a hunting rig. I'm coming around to the idea of an adjustable, that would ensure the fit is perfect no matter what scope I put on it.

Manners LRH. As stated above, you get the adjustable cheek piece for a precise fit, but not the added weight. I have 6 of them now, fantastic stocks.

McMillan ELR Hunter is very similar to the Manners LRH If you like McM better.

The adjustable AG hunter has caught my eye. I was put off by the 40 oz, but a little junk in the trunk might not be a bad thing for 90+ grains of powder. The NX8 is definitely on the short list of scopes.

The AG Alpine Hunter Adjustable is a good option too. I had one on a 338 Norma for that exact reason. Little extra weight in the rear helps tremendously on these Norma's.

Have you selected a gunsmith yet by chance?

Have an AG hunter on my 7-300 PRC...like it alot. NF makes a great product but suffers from a bit of haze and lack of clarity at powers above 26

Thanks for the photo. A complete rifle is a way better perspective than an empty stock hanging on a wall.

Manners says it's for all right hand actions. I am a lefty. Says they can do a left handed version with a reinforced traditional Bolt notch.
