Well yesterday me, my dad and Tom (Magnumitis on here) loaded up a couple of his horses and a game cart and packed in a couple of our bear baits. the day didn't exactly go as planned. It is only about 2 miles in from the locked gate but the cart slowed us down a little and contributed to the overall exhaustion by the time we got up there.. My dad was feeling sick and the cold air and/or elevation was making it worse so when we got to the top he turned around and went back to the truck.
We had a big load and were having a hard time getting it all to stay on the horse the correct way so we unloaded it all and reloaded my barrel and feed because we knew where it was going already. by then we were so tired we decided to just set toms bait up in the trees to get the bears coming into the area and we will move it later once the gate opens and we can drive the ATV's in there. We took a few pics but not a ton as we didn't have time to do everything we wanted but here is What I took.
I changed things with my barrel a little instead of chaining it top and bottom to the tree i only chained the top and suspended it about 6-10" above ground. It will be interesting to see how the bears respond to having to chase the barrel around.
Some of my feed, barrel and honey loaded up at the house
Pete ready to go help put the bait out
Horses loaded and ready to go
Horses are loaded down, game cart is packed and ready to start the 2 mile uphill hike
Tom pouring bait in my barrel
Me pouring some bait in
And how it sits right now (except the lid is closed) and the scent is hanging up in the tree. Notice all of the snow still on the north facing slope, We will be shooting either from across the canyon or in the bottom like last year.
Once we get up and get toms bait in its new permanent location ill update with more pics. And ill try to get some from across the canyon looking at the baits.
