Talking about optic company customer service is not off topic in any way. Its a very important aspect of selecting the right optic. If you dont like reading about it, just keep quiet and move on.

Alaska Guy did you get to try you dads spotter yet? If so did it help you decide? My advice would be get your dads scope as I have a 20 some year old Lieca that is still hard to beat. These top tier optics don't seem to fade away no matter what the new guys are bringing out.
