Speer Bullets

+1 for lots of Speer bullets down range over the last decades. Their TNT and gold dots are very common.

Anyone shoot Speer bullets? I rarely see anyone mention them. I just picked up 500, 30 caliber, 150 grain spitzer boattails. The finish looks better than what I remember from years ago. Maybe because they're owned by ATK now? Anyone have recent experience? For $26.50/box, I decided to give them a whirl in the 308 Win.
Been shooting 168 match hollow points and they are good

I use them when I can find them. They've never let me down!

It's been decades since I used them in my 30-06. The 180 gr Mag Tip made a huge hole on a meat sow I shot at 50 yards. I'd use them again. I hear the TNT line has been great on varmints and is accurate.

I've shot Nitrex Speer 165 Grand Slam .in 308
12 for 12 one shot kills the last one was a 650 lb Blue Wildabeast at 150 yards 5 steps and dead

I have shot Speer bullets for over 50 years, the 130 gr. Stbt in. 270 Win is excellent on elk and deer, the 165 gr. Sp in 30-06 is a great whitetail, and the 180 gr. Mag tip in my 30-06 performs perfect on elk, I have recovered several with a perfect mushroom fall out lodged under the hide on the opposite side when skinning, that's great performance in my opinion. My uncle used the 130 gr. Hollow point in 30-06 for groundhogs back east years ago, very accurate, I still load and shoot them in his pre 64 Winchester Model 70 which I got from him in the early 70's. I've shot deer and bears with the 240 gr Magnum Soft Point in my S&W 44 magnum. There are others like the 100 gr. Sp in my 257 Roberts that anchors whitetails very well. I know there are some others but I have used and still use lots of Speer bullets.

Like others I have sent thousands of Prarie dogs to that big dog town in the sky with their 52 HP .
Also use the 165 .30 cal. BT with good results. Shoots about same as Sierria GK in my .308.

The 39 grain Sierra's are the best bullet in my CZ 204 Ruger. More accurate than the Berger and Hornady bullets. Very consistent. Can easily hit prairie dogs out to 500 yards. Sierra 250 grain bullets shoot great in my 338 Lapua. Taken Antelope beyond 800 yards with them and the best bullets in my 6 Creedmoor are David Tubb's boron nitride coated 115 grain bullets which are made by Sierra. Excluding the DT 115 grain bullets, they don't usually have the highest in class coefficient but are very consistent and accurate. I really like them and use them a lot along with Berger and Hornady bullets. Bought some Hammers but haven't had a chance to try them yet. Like others, like the gold dots in pistols.

Two pictures of the DT 115s by Sierra. 4 and 10 shot groups. The two lower shots in the 10 shot group were the two fouling shots after cleaning.

I shoot Sierra when I can find them (I like Fords too: habit but now it's Subaru). Speer, Hornady, PPU and others work fine for me. I don't use Hammers (don't want to deplete their supply so Hammer people can be happy). Any of the bullets are fine for deer or pigs. 400g Speers in my 45-70 hit like a freight train. I never pass up the opportunity to get seconds packed in bulk: they shoot good too!

At that price I'd say you'd have a solid 500 yard deer rifle..

Grand Slam are as good as any premium bullet in my opinion, just a bit finicky finding a good load. I shot bears with the 200gr. Hotcore in my 8mm-06 Ackley for years - and one moose. All good results. I used the mag tips in my .300Wby and they worked good on Elk. Nothing wrong with Speer. Reasonable price and good selection. I've loaded them in my 9.3x62 but haven't had a chance to try them on game yet. Looking forward to that.

Been shooting Speer bullets for decades. The TNT in 22, 243, 6.5, 7mm, and 30 cal is one of my favorites. If a gun won't group with them, it's usually a gun problem. The TNT used to be a bargain bullet. Been trying to get some to shoot for my 7BR, but haven't seen any in over a year. I called Speer to find out when they would produce them next and the couldn't tell me.
