Soft jaws for work bench vise?

I used 1/2" soft pine for each side and covered with thin leather I got from upholstery shop scraps. Put a couple of strong round magnets in set in wood, so I can take them off when needed. About $20 total.

I like these a lot. They are soft and can be squeezed tight. Work great. Magnetic with various slits for the small stuff.

Got mine from Brownells. Magnetic, easily removed,vertical and horizontal slits, non-marring, work great.

So you use the soft jaws on a vice to install and remove barrels from an action?
I have a bbl vise I use for removal of factory bbl's. Ive used the JCL jaws to reinstall A custom bbl on actions. I also use them in the mill to avoid damage to the exterior of softer material.
Make your own out of copper stock- I have been wanting to do this for a while. Clough42 on YouTube did it for his Wilton, and I've been thinking about doing the same, but my old, low-end vice is worn out and I need a new, better one like a Wilton. so I'll probably wait until I get that before making soft jaws out of copper.
I use barrel and action vises to install and remove barrels/actions. These are only used to to hold the rifle or barrel for cleaning and scope mounting/leveling.
