Socks for big feet and you opinions

From everyday to hunting/hiking socks specifically wool, either Marino or alpaca or favorite blend. I'm looking at people socks, darn tough, hollow and smart wool. For those like me I'm a 14 shoe size normal width. I bought darn tough L and they were a little to tight so I got the XL and they are to long( the heel is at the back of my foot). Maybe the XL will shrink to fit nicely?? But at the price of some I'm not into wasting money. I am gearing up for a Colorado hunt this fall of 2025. But north east is my usual hunting grounds. My old school polypropylene and REI branded socks are just about done and looking to re-supply

Cushion or not
A "hunt specific" or standard style.

Mine is Darn Tough in Crew and cushioned. I've been through several brands and this is the best for me….guarantied also.

My feet sweat like crazy, the best sock for that so far is Bamboo socks from Matco Tools. Quarter height for every day, crew for hunting.

Darned tough, over the calf and cushioned are my favorite. Warranty sounds great but have never had to try it out.

I wear alpaca wool socks over a pair of dress socks. I have smart wool as a backup. But I think the alpaca socks have a life time warranty

I really wanted to love the darn tough. They just didn't fit well...

Darn tough , and Smart wool, both are good and wear well . I like them heavy weight, and crew length.

I have 14 size and so hard to find good socks for work boots/shoes but have luck with Hunting socks. Bought Merrel and they were too tight - like compression socks. Have some LaCross Wool Socks that I wear with my hunting boots and they are a good fit.

Size 13-14 here and smart wools have been the most comfortable to fit my feet. Haven't tried the darn tough yet

So just to add another element. I've never had cushioned socks. Do you go with or with out cushion?
