I have and will always have a 270 in house, To me it is the " If you only had one rile " the 270 is my answer to that question
I have a 270, likely will be taking that tube off soon, I like 270 alot but no it is not close to 270 Wea.I am sure the 270 weatherby is very very little gain over the 270 winchester and weatherby uses 26 inch Bbls and very high pressure wihch is not good for accuracy.
243, 260, 6.5CM, 270, 280, 308, 30-06. They'll all kill deer and larger game very efficiently. It's a _ _ _ _ measuring contest really. The game don't know the difference. It's us that has to push our favorite cartridge. Some offer better LR ballistics but in reality, most, even tho this is a LR hunting forum, shoot deer and other large game animals well within any of the above cartridges well within their effective ranges. All of them are very capable of clean effective kills. Not with high BC bullets either. That puts the .270 pretty much at the top of that list powder and effectiveness wise. I don't think there's any disagreement of that. Everyone that knows anything about cartridges and LR bullets for hunting/ target knows which have the best ability at LR/ELR scenarios. The .277 is probably the poorest of all of them with the exception of the Berger 170. Sure would love to see more heavies for the .277. If I was betting on a bullet to show up, my money would be on Hornady to make it. They love their hands in everything and wouldn't surprise me to hear of a 270 CM or 270 PRC. It's Hornady so if they make it, people will come !!!If you stay around long enough you see how things have a way of coming back around. Back in the day as we like to say the F Class guys necked down the 284 to 6.5 and 6.5 284 ruled long range shooting. Now with the addition of several super high bc 284 bullets the 284 has made a comeback. So much so that guys are now necking up 6.5 284 brass since straight 284 can be hard to find. The 270 has always lacked for high bc bullets. That is changing so who knows. Stick around long enough you just might see the 270 make a comeback. As it is its a fine hunting round for medium game. In fact out to " normal " hunting ranges it smokes the creedmoor. I doubt it will ever gain such wide acceptance but at least these new bullets will make sure it sticks around.
Yea, it was just a wee bit of sarcasm.300 WM is waaayyyy faster than 06! Not much faster than its li'l sis tho...300WSM, who is younger and prettier. Which is why I own 06 and 300 WSM. I'm a li'l a-skeert of the 300 WM push back on my shoulder. I shouldn't be b/c recoil tolerance is really just mind over matter. But, I mind, so it matters.
150-200 fps faster. Pretty much the difference between an Ackley cartridge vs the same non Ackley cartridge. About the same difference as the .308 is to the 30-06. It's definitely faster. Both 06 and 300 WM are oldies but goodies and YES, the WSM is sexier.300 WM is waaayyyy faster than 06! Not much faster than its li'l sis tho...300WSM, who is younger and prettier. In ten years the short magnums will be dead like the 6.5 remington magnum and so will the rem ultra mag like the 8mm rem mag gone.150-200 fps faster. 10So just a short interlude here.
can someone confirm the twist of this new 270 I won? It's the Savage axis II, Overwatch with a 20" barrel. I'm assuming it's 1:10 but some Savage retailers are in disagreement with this ; stating 1:9. Also I'm hearing that the short barrel won't allow heavier pills (like Berger LR projectile) to be used, Even if it has a longer throat chamber. Is this the case?
Although this rifle will likely only be used out to 300M I'd like to know prior to testing.
I suppose I could run the numbers through a stabilization app.
BTW I don't currently have access to RL powders nor do I have access to 4831. I do have 4064,4350,4031,2828 hybrid 100v superformance, varget.
