I finally purchased a Hunting Rifle. I ended up buying a Vanguard Series 2 Synthetic .270 caliber from a private seller. Unfortunately, before selling the rifle to me, he removed the scope & left the rings. Now I need to purchase a Riflescope to match the rifle and the type of hunting I will be doing here in Montana.

Not knowing much about scopes and all the various options that are offered, I've been reading opinions and reviews of all the scopes in my price range.
While my head is still swimming over all the types of reticles, MOA, FOV, magnifications etc..., one question kept coming back to me.

How Good is the WARRANTY of the product?

I have seen TWO scopes which had identical features yet, one had a Lifetime "NO questions", Transferable warranty. while the other had anywhere from a 90 day to a two year warranty.

So I decided I should examine as many Companies Warranties and then weed out the companies which didn't stand behind their product with much of a warranty.

So, after going through all that, I believe I will be selecting a Vortex Product. Vortex Optics - Riflescopes
Or perhaps I might buy a Redfield Rifle Scope. http://redfield.com/riflescopes/

Now I just need to figure out which scope is best for my application ! Any advice is welcome. I will be hunting in South-Western Montana, where there are long prairies as well as mountains & valleys. Since this is my first time hunting, I am unsure whether I will be taking a 500 yd. shot or less. I have a Deer Tag as well as an Elk tag.

I hope the above list helps others in making a decision for any future purchases. The one issue in my mind is TRANSFERABILITY. Anyone buying or selling a used scope should be aware if the warranty will apply to them.
Plus, I would think having a scope which is transferable to another owner would be good for resale value. There might be a good used scope for sale but, if there isn't any warranty once you buy it. You are libel for any repairs which could end up costing you as much as having bought a brand new scope with a warranty.
At least that is my opinion. lightbulb

Good to see Konus has the best warranty in the industry. I have an M-30 8.5-32x52 on my 5R .308 Win. Been on there since Jan 2012. Has been an excellent scope so far. Also love my Kahles, Zeiss, Simmons, Tasco, & Nitrex scopes. The Kahles has the clearest sharpest glass. But the Zeiss scopes are my favorite all-around for hunting & target shooting.

My next scope will be a Vortex Viper HS Long Range FFP 6-24x50. Figured I've tried most of the common brands out there, why not give the Vortex a shot.

I have this exact Vortex scope. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Viper HS LR 6-24x50 Riflescope — First Focal Plane

Yes, many if not most of the companies have good to superior warranties.
I went through this process because my funds are limited and wanted to spend my money wisely.

I did end up buying the Diamondback 3-9x40 Riflescope with the Dead-Hold BDC Reticle for $199

I know most other, more high quality scopes would be better and carry the same warranty but, like I said I'm on a low-income budget and this is my first time hunting. The sales person said for my usage and budget, this scope would be my best bet.

I believe the most important aspect of any warranty, even if it says LIFETIME is whether it is Transferable to a potential secondary buyer.
Scanning through the whole list I presented, I believe there are only 4 companies which state TRANSFERABLE. That means when I am ready to upgrade, the resale value will stand up because the warranty is transferable to the new owner, no questions asked.
I believe that is an important point for those buying a used scope.
At least it would be for me. Even with that said, some companies say you must include the sales receipt when selling to another person.
Who keeps a sales receipt for 5-10-15 years ?

I looked at this scope as well but, the sales person said for ME, spending the extra money wouldn't give me any more benefit.
I'm certain it would to a more experienced shooter or hunter.
And the warranty is probably the best to be found on the market.

I like the Vortex HS LR FFP 6-24x50, but I still will always want to spend that extra money for a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 MOAR reticle.

It sucks when you're in the lower income bracket, but the only scope you really want costs 1/11th of what you make a year (after taxes, of course). LOL
