Slug gun scope gap

IMO, it is probably not enough gap. I would likely solve it by going to a different optic. IMO, slug guns do best with a reflex or other low power small scope.

I have sold all of my reflex sights as they aren't for me. Don't get me wrong, I have 2-7 scopes and they are alright but most people that use them can't even make a group at 100 yards because of not enough zoom. I see that with 3-9 power scopes too.. everyone at the range struggling to sight in properly. I want something I can zoom in, know it is sighted in perfectly, then zoom out for hunting. I would rather have a 2.5-20 Nx8, 4-16, or something similar. Even my muzzleloaders have 4-32 zoom and I absolutely love it. It allows me to shoot soo much better while people with low power scopes are sighting in at 25 or 50 and calling a 4 inch group good.

Too close for comfort IMO. I'd leave the sight base alone and use slightly higher rings. If the comb is already a bit low, I'd try a butt cuff with a modestly raised pad.

Removing or grinding that sight base would reduce the gun's value if you ever decide to sell it.

I've had that situation several times mounting large objective scopes low. My advice is to roughly simulate barrel and scope vibration while firing, by squeezing the scope and barrel together at that point where they would touch. If you can make them touch with easy or moderate pressure, they're likely to touch when firing. The minor affect to barrel harmonics may not matter. See how it shoots! Also if it touches under recoil you'll ding the bottom of the scope a little.

I squeezed them together as hard as I could and there is still light between and could fit 3 pieces of paper between while fully compressed
