I used a down sleeping bag from Cabelas back in the early 90's in a tent, generic foam pad, -5F at night, slept in my underwear and was toasty on Colorado elk hunt.

I have this exact setup. Love it. Super light, packs up small and plenty warm. After switching to a quilt, I will never use a regular sleeping bag again.

I have one that's rated to 20 degrees but they make them down to 0. I think mine weighs only about 20 oz. I've used it down to about 10 degrees and just added a layer of clothing underneath. Always take puffy jacket and pants for sitting and use them with my sleep system if it gets really cold.

Sea to summit Spark is a good down bag I bought one for the wife and prefer it over my mountain hardware ghost whisperer.
Arcteryx would be a good option for a puffy. I'm on year 5 with mine and I hunt stones every year in Northern BC
Go with a 20F/-7*C bag and a neoair x therm NXT sleeping pad

Often I'll run a light quilt rated at like 30° and if it gets too cold I just wear my puffy suit when I sleep. Only had to really do this once when we setup shop on top of the mountain and it snowed on us for three days before the sheep opener.

So bag arrived yesterday. Decided on the Western Mountaineer Badger. We shall see how it works out. Won't get a true test until next July. Thanks for all the input.
