Simpson Winch Anchor Set up

I broke down and bought a Simpson winch after having to pack or drag my last couple big game animals out solo or close to it. The Simpson winch as purchased comes with wire rope loop that secures to a bolt on the back of the unit for an anchor point. The instructions for using the winch say not to remove the anchor bolt when attaching the wire anchor around a tree or other attachment point. BUT, I would like to change out the stock anchor system on the winch to be a couple hooks like on the Portable Winch set up so I can use straps instead of cable on the Simpson winch. Has anyone every done this or something similar with a Simpson winch and if so, I would be interested in how to go about it without messing anything up. Thanks
